  • Tres bon chablis, pas très sec mais très parfumé, pas d'amertume, de lq fraicheur. Tres bien.

  • This is a succulent little fruit buster, with a much-improved glide from my last go-around. An extra beam of lift and grip adds a bump of intensity and focus. Lemony and slightly rich, but with a requisite acid pop that bounces in and keeps the profile from becoming too round.

Admittedly less complex than its sibling 2018 Malandes Montmains served beside it, this Vau de Vey is still a perfect little food wine for just about any occasion. Shows some of the curves of the vintage (which some Chablis-ians detest), but it is a solid patio table performer. For the price, you can’t really be that mad at it. Drink now and over the next 3+ years. Sealed with DIAM. 91/92+?-ish point-type realm for me.

  • Un bon chablis, parfumé et équilibré. Peut-être pas le meilleur 1er cru mais c'est bien fait.

  • Round and inviting, with a small push of added volume when compared to the bottle of this I had last year. A little less spunk and intensity, this will be a wine for nearer term consumption. Straightforward and casually flavorful on the finish. Drink now and over the next 3+ years. Sealed with DIAM 10, so you can probably stretch that drinking window out more if you prefer your Chablis with some age). 91-92 points.

  • Initially reserved and linear on opening, but with some significant swirling and aeration the Malandes Vau de Vey wakes up and delivers attractive lemon citrus and cream flavors that continue to expand and push-out broader over the course of a few hours. Fresh and smooth. Less of a punchy or overtly vibrant showing, displaying a more feminine profile that slowly builds with additional volume once it stretches its legs. Finishes slightly round and simple, but not without a beautifully balanced grip to keep the speed on-point and the flavors continuing through the back end. A very pretty summer sipper.

Served next to a 2018 Droin Fourchaume 1er Chablis, which had a bit more intensity and concentration than the Malandes VdV. 91-92+ points for the Malandes at this juncture, with potentially another point or so in a few years. Solid QPR (though I personally preferred the similarly-priced Droin).
