  • Dark smoky brick red with medium transparency. Aromas of sous bois, black cherry, leather, and cedar. Palate has some dried tobacco and black truffle notes with black cherry, strawberry, smoke, and leather that carry into a medium finish. This is drinking well and has developed nice tertiary aromatics. Drink or hold.

  • Translucent ruby-red center with some browing/lightening at the edges. Large-scaled aromatics of strawberry, raspberry, and sous bois, tea, smoke, and allspice. On the palate, the spice and smoke notes dominate, with the berry fruit just behind in prominence. Mushroom notes emerge with time in the glass and some cranberry creeps in. Strong acids carry a long finish. Very characteristic of 1996 in Oregon (strong acids preserving fresh berry fruit) and a wine I'm glad to be able to revisit after nearly a decade.
