Muted with spicy oak tannins. Savory and smoky with black fruits. After a couple of hours some floral aromas emerged but pretty muted overall. Not the usual prettiness I expect Maybe in a dumb phase

Decanted. Dark purple. Nose has dark red to black fruit, black pepper and some raw meat. On the palate it has a steely acidity, reminiscent of Beaujolais but the complex fruit is so lush. Very nice Syrah in a ripe slightly alcoholic style.
PNP a clean garnet colour in the glass. Enjoyed without any food pairing.
Nose: Stewed blackberries, subtle forest mushroom, black pepper really dominate the nose balanced with aromas of violet.
Palate: This one was a tad hot and tight immediately upon opening but really settled down rather quickly which was thoroughly appreciated. Medium plus acidity persisted and tannins of a mild nature. Despite the darker garnet colouring I really found red fruit to dominate the palate with ripe racy raspberries and menthol as the primary flavours. I would say the nose offered a little more than the palate but really enjoyed this nevertheless.

Dirt, violet, black plums, smoked meat. Subtle cedar. Savoury rather than fruity. Elegant in style and varietally correct, but nothing new or surprising or compelling. Very good length

Colour is medium to deep ruby with aromas of sweet red & black fruit & smoked meat. On the palate, medium bodied tart red cherry/plum and blueberry with very savoury spice/green peppercorn & cedar. Very lively high acidity & medium to high soft tannins. The finish is long and this wine is well balanced between young fresh fruit/13.5% ABV/acidity/tannin. Lovely!

Medium red. Lots of pepper, along with red cherry, berry and Syrah funk. Dry peppery red cherry flavours and a dry tannic finish.
I have ha d a few bottles of this at home and found the 2018 to be a bit disappointing, I didn’t make a note on any of the bottles. This was much different and really brought the pepper.

Le Vieux Pin Syrah Violette with a blend of 99% Syrah and 1% Viognier was a more approachable and one could say a feminine style of Syrah. Aromas of crushed violets, blackcurrant crumble, blackberry pastry, and fresh herbs. The palate was fresh and lush with waves of dark berry fruit, silky tannins, light structure, bright mid-palate with an enjoyable finish. Drink this now over the next couple of years. This is better than 2017. 90-91 can't decide...
