My preferred style of California Pinot: more floral than fruity. Fairly delicate but not reticent. Some fruit — no one would mistake this for a Burgundy — but the balance is very nice.

Quite pale around the rim, dark core. On the nose great purity, red with some black fruit, floral notes, spices. Rich fruit with good concentration, mineral, well integrated acidity. The tannins are ripe and polished. Nicely balanced and long. Keep. 92-93+

Cherry, rooibos, classic light Pinot with lots of smoke. Delicious with barbecue though very slightly thin on the finish. Evolving into classic forest floor and tea. A delicate pairing option - not quite robust enough for Tandoori chicken.

Beautiful stuff, maybe priced a little high for the quality but still gorgeous. It's very primary right now of course, but not too young to be really enjoyable.
Nose is pure, perfumed red cherry, with accents of baking spice, almond, and verrrrry subtle herbal/woodsmoke tones popping up. Nose improved with a little air showing nuances of darker fruit (black cherry?) Mostly fruit, but totally beautiful fruit, and feels closer to a cool-climate, airy style.
At first the palate was a little different, leaning toward a riper, rounded style, although no less lovely- again a waterfall of cherry and subtle wet-stone minerality. Tannins are there, but just as a very gentle grip, neither too little nor too much. Acidity started a little too low, but quickly brightened to at least medium+, a lively, almost citrusy tone that balanced the ripe cherry fruit. Day two saw very little change except for even higher acidity, almost too tart for the style, but made up for it with an increased mineral presence.
My only other experience with Kistler PN was a 2008 Cuveé Elizabeth 'Bodega Headlands' Vineyard, more than twice as expensive as this and graciously shared by a friend. This RRV felt like a "fresher" style, showing brightness, energy, airy perfumed fruit- the 2008 bottle was dark, brooding, also aromatically intense but somehow both showing more ripeness and more savory nuance. I guess that's the magic of great vineyards, but it felt like a totally different style.
Loved this- maybe felt more like a great $50 Pinot rather than $70, but every sniff/sip was super joyful. Really threads a needle between a cool-climate "fresh" style and a somewhat riper, fruit-driven one. Cellar time would likely bring about interesting earthy tones hidden in the depths. Thanks for reading my long note.

Very primary cherry and light cola flavors.
14.1% but doesn’t show much heat served on the cool side.
A fabulous restaurant choice
