  • A stony nose, with a suggestion of honeysuckle and a touch of yuzu. Steely and insistent on the palate, fairly saline towards the finish and with fruit that's so magificently austere it's even more bitter than grapefruit. Really quite herbal too. And so fucking dry. Wow. Worked well with pork shoulder and apple in a cider cream sauce.

  • Blind....light yellow in the glass. Wonderful petrol nose early on which gives the wine away. Note, this leaves within 30 minutes open to air.

This wine is very balanced on all fronts and very enjoyable. Right up there at 94-95 as my WOTN.

  • Decanted 6hrs. Quite the Enchantress on the nose, lots of yellow plums, Mirabelle, Yuzu – whatever take yer pick as it was seductive as all get out. Donnhoff was my gate way to German GG’s starting with the 2006-07 vintages, and I have purchased sporadically throughout the years, all enjoyable, all very good to great. Certainly a top shelf specimen, and much more forgiving at this early look vs. that of say a Schonleber or Schafer Frolich GG. Brimming at the seams with complexities soon to unfurl, this gem had a very relaxed and caressing character. Great length, with a suggestion of a bitter finish with a lightly tannic bite on the tongue, but pivots to a clean, sweet swallow. Love this and in 4 to 8 years should be epic.

  • Giallo paglierino scarico, naso fiori bianchi frutta bianca e sensazioni minerali, leggermente idrocarburico, bocca fresca, materica, leggera carbonica, finale frutto salino.
Resta compresso nel bicchiere. Bisogno di tempo.

  • Lemon oil and saline. Young but nose is fantastic.

  • Beautiful nos with flavors of peach, lemon, and apricot. Very young, but there is a lot going on and plenty of complexity. High acidity and excellent balance on the palate with more lemon flavors, tart stone fruit, and white pepper. Long finish. What a great wine. Super promising, but I would hold at least for another 5 years. 95-96+

  • BYO og pinnekjøtt; 11/24/2022-11/25/2022: Blind. Strålende vin, uendelig lang, balansert, forfriskende syre, allerede noe kompleksitet.

  • Pale. Medium weight. Aromas and flavors of guava, lime, and botanical herbs. Authoritative and piercing. Outstanding young, dry Riesling. So glad we got to try this.

  • Bill & Crew - Offline #1 (Sydney, Australia): Blind. Floral, apple, pear and talc on the nose. Palate is all about the acidity right now - amplified and high pitched, this is an intense ride on the palate but probably needs to settle a bit to be enjoyable. Give it 5 years before checking in and probably another 10+ before it is showing it's best.

  • This thing needs a decent tick of time before it (hopefully) starts showing what it's all about. It has crystalline purity and the typical lemon/lime spritz thing going on, but it doesn't necessarily have anything that distinguishes itself from/above others in its class. Without being too overly critical, I find this to carry solid intensity and keen focus, but it is simply a yeasty shot of Squirt citrus grapefruit/lemon and that's about it. Complexity or any layering of flavoring is not in the cards right now. It's a good Riesling and I know there is a lot of fanfare popping off for this, but I will be holding my "oohs and aahs" for some time down the road. Hold 'em if ya got 'em. 92-93?+ points.

(Note: I have about half of the remaining juice still left in the bottle; recorked and stored in the fridge. I'll report back and see what a day or two with a bit of O2 does [if anything] to coax this holy Joe into having more of a frolicsome personality). Update: Bottom line, this needs 5-7+ years to gain complexity. Give it time and be rewarded.

  • Lemony and powerful on it. Darn that is amazing stuff. So fresh and mineral and intense.

  • Floral with pineapple and spices; Most structured, already complex, extraordinary length and concentration. Potential for becoming even more complex, rating for now.

  • Wonderful complexity with this deep soil / salt layer that comes out of the glass and gives joy together with light smoke, wet rock, tight golden yellow fruit, nut, hint of wax and clear summer flower. Pretty full-bodied wine that just strikes with a bang and immediately sets itself in respect with an insane touch of power, energy and punch all the way. Beautiful masculine Riesling fruit with this fantastic concentration that impresses very much. Super fruit of yellow juicy pulp, juicy grapefruit, this runny citrus peel, wet stone minerality and against pepper character and with this beautiful acidity that takes hold and shows you the end after a tremendous long force. Long and complex finish. Superb Riesling!

  • Wild yeasts, lemon peel, nectarine, papaya, white flowers, lilac, crushed chalk, and wet rocks on the nose. Wonderful depth and precision on the palate, offering a cornucopia of citrus fruits intertwined with wet stone minerality and zesty acidity, lingering on a long finish. I may be partial to the 2018 in its youth, which I thought had a little more clarity and purity, but this is excellent.

  • 2019 Donnhoff GGs+GK friends (Zoom, Chicago, IL): Nose: The nose here takes everything to another level from the previous wines. There is an immense amount of depth and poise as it fills the glass with papaya, lemon peels, green apples, peaches, nectarines, baking spices, white flowers, crushed rocks, and saline.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with razor-sharp, high acidity. The feel is deep, refined, and long with papaya, lemon peels, green apples, nectarines, baking spices, white flowers, crushed rocks, and saline.

Overall: This is a monumental wine. This vineyard routinely makes special wines and this is no different. This certainly does need the better part of 5+ years of aging to show off its full potential.

  • Aromatics of lemon peel, ripe but still firm pineapple, and a bit of slightly unripe banana. White flower and crushed rocks too. The same fruits are there on the palate. Lots of weight, though extremely delicate at the same time. Fantastic energy and huge minerality here. Really looking forward to watching the bottles I tucked away evolve. Drank over two days with pretty much the same impressions.
