Writing this note a few days later so no formal notes. Served blind next to a 2018 Carter Carter, 2018 Kinsman La Voleuse, and a 2018 Vice Versa Houyi. All wines were double decanted 6 hours in advance of tasting. My favorite on the 23rd, this had classic TRB velvety purple fruit, and open for business. Still have some to try tonight but this was so solid.
Intense dark cherry, blackberry, raspberry, violets, loads of oak influence, vanilla, cinnamon, anise, licorice, oak chips, cedar, great purity and balance with a velvety mouthfeel. Similar to my previous bottles, it’s an excellent wine, but not as good as some previous vintages like 2015 and 2016.

What an amazing wine. Starts with violets on the nose and a distinct black cherry fruit smell. On the palette the fruits are blackberry, strawberry, blueberry alongside oregano, green olive, tobacco leaf, and leather.

The wine was my WOTN. It is just so well balanced and presents itself with a backbone of vanilla bean creaminess, some fresh cedar wood, and a finish of fresh berry. So complex with layers of fruits and has a long finish of lingering dark berries. This wine is fresh and almost worth opening now but I sense it would be worth waiting 3-5 years.

I decided to open one early. I decanted 4 hours prior to drinking. No signs of smoke taint. A great wine. Nice nose. Great fruit with some blueberry and smoke. This will be great for many years to come. I’m glad I have several more to open after some time in the cellar.

Had to pop one early, did not disappoint. PnP, but needed an hour to develop a nose. Dark cherry, raspberry, blueberry, cassis, spice box, dried tobacco leaf, rocky minerality, massively velvety texture and great balance. Medium + tannins but they are sweet and well integrated with the massive fruit. Very good now.

Coravin samples. If you are a fan of Outpost then you will love the approach of the 18's. Slightly behind the 16's at this same stage in time but very enjoyable early. Full bodied. Purple and blue fruit. New oak, slightly dialed back from previous vintages. Polished tannins with some grit to age. Acids medium. Estate 93 (A little less depth and minerality but at $95 it should not be passed up) TV 95+ (A bit more depth and minerality compared to the estate) D2C $150 TVI 96+ Equal parts Cab, Merlot & Franc. Would almost have guessed new world Syrah with the stewed meats. Killer wine. My favorite of the bunch at this point.

Great job by Thomas Rivers Brown. Delicious wine I felt this was similar in quality to his double diamond.

Same as my previous bottles, very good, no smoke taint, not as profound as 2015 and 2016.
