  • Took to a friend's house for dinner. PnP. Medium dark red. Lovely Volnay nose. A bit clenched on the palate but still very Volnay. Not sure if this will improve further but it may. Nice wine but was overwhelmed by some older Barolos at the same time.

  • PnP. Perfect cork and fill. Medium red. Lovely rather floral nose with red fruits dominating. Quite smooth and medium weight on the palate with distinct minerality (Volnay!) and little in the way of tannins on the finish which is long and balanced. Will see if it evolves further with air. This continues to put on weight, with more minerality sweeter fruit and complexity with air. Very impressive at age 17. 2005 Burgundies may be beginning to drink, perhaps sooner than 99 and 02.

  • PnP. Medium dark red. Classic Volnay nose of deep red fruit and iron. On the palate this is initially quite dense and thick with fine tannins. Over a few hours the fruit becomes more apparent and the tannins fade, yielding a harmonious whole. Lovely wine and still quite young at age 14.

  • PnP. Deep red little sign of bricking. Lovely spicy nose, though missing the elegant velvet of the last bottle. On the palate this has good intensity of dark fruits and spice and a very young presentation. I would say this won't be at peak for another 5-10 years as there are significant tannins buried in the fruit. Finish goes on and on. This could last 20 more years without a problem. Tribute to the vintage.

  • PnP - perfect cork. Dark ruby - no browning. Dark fruit on the nose but reticent, some spice, and sandalwood. Intense rather than ethereal. Great depth on the mid-palate and finish as well as perfect balance - lovely velvety fruit - still young but clearly shows the greatness of the vintage. Still a bit reticent after a couple of hours - needs a few more years but extremely promising.

  • Excellant. Very Full bodied, structured Volnay. Still a few years away from ready, but with some air time and food quiet enjoyable. No nonsense old school wine. 3 or 4 more years and this will be really, really good.

  • Overall a nice bottle with a good balance of red berry flavors mixed with just a touch of spice (perhaps clove?). Texture is very pleasing and the slightly high acidity helps this wine cope with most meals. However, $70 is a bit of a stretch if you are looking for value.
