2018 Oddero Langhe Nebbiolo

Community Tasting Notes

  • V likeable Neb. A bit smoother and 'made' than the equivalent from Luigi Oddero which is a bit lighter. I really enjoyed it and will enjoy drinking the rest of the case. Didnt need decanting or air - fine to pnp. Does what langhe neb should. Drinking now. V good qpr.

  • Seeing all the notes around I m biased ! it clearly is a 90/92 but for length it is a little 90, but pleasure and drinkability it is a 92

I was about to rate 90...ish but thought it was better first ... juts a langhe you know ... but what a Langhe is more the right expression !

2018, again AG and JS shitted over it ! screw them ! This is awesome when well made !

    WSET mode...

    M Ruby

MIOA, red cherry, laurel, mint, eucalypt, balsamic, dried tomates, wet leaves, seasoned oak, intricate and complex, evolving through aeration.

Palate is dry, with M+ acidity, High Alcohol (feeling like M+), M+ tannins soft and savory, M+ Body, and M+ IOA more intense on the palate the wine shows all the above characters with little more spice and grip, with a med subtle savory finish.

The wine is very good, balanced between fruit flavors, tertiary notes coming in and M+ acidity and soft savory med+ tannins. The wine lacks mainly length and a bit more complexity to be outstanding but still shows refined tannins and a savory and subtle slaty finish.

It already shows enjoyable tertiary notes, signs of aging, like balsamic and dried tomatoes. Fruit starts to fall a bit and it will not benefit from aging more considering how well it drinks now.

    My Notes

The wine rocks, from top to bottom, it is flashy and sexy but in a restrained and out of fashion way, it s a 50's lady, with class and elegance. All is in its place, no show off ! Only balanced and refined aromas and style.

It is in a perfect spot, and I cannot imagine drinking anything else right now as it is perfectly showing. Savory salty finish ... lingering with no force nor power, 14 alcohol ! you'd never thought that high... again balance is everything in wine, and here it is all balanced !

  • Definitely a luscious version of Oddero's nebbiolo. Drank on a trip, so no real notes, will catch up on next bottle.

  • 👀 Very similar to barolo the other day, light, cherry, tobacco, tar. Slight flower scent pops out over time
👄 Here you get the difference, acidic, light, red berries, medium length, tar, gripping tannins. Pleasant.

  • Glass in a restaurant. More plodding and extracted than I expected. Was too warm, so may be a misimpression.

  • Delicious. We've been to Oddero in Santa Maria, just down the hill and to the northeast of La Morra. We're fans of their style and this did not disappoint. Their style: typical Nebbiolo, with aromas of a little tar, a little rose, cherries, spice, earthy tones, and dark cherries and spice on the palate, but no noticeable oak sensations. The vines are 15-20 years old and from a vineyard near Santa Maria. With the acidity and approachable tannins, this is drinking well now, but I feel this will develop more complexity if it sits for a few years.

  • Relatively lithe and light-footed, sweet fruit (though not fresh exactly), not too tannic, very nice, very different from last week's Vietti 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo - lighter, sweeter, less bracing

  • The medium-high intensity aromatics offer red berry, cherry, floral, spice, and earthy tones with a hint of balsamic and orange rind. The palate is light-bodied with flavours of dark red sour cherry, spice, floral, and earth. Acids are fresh and juicy, along with a touch of warmth on the mid-palate, but still well-balanced. Tannins are fine-grained and textured with a supple grip. Savoury, earthy notes flecked with cherry and floral linger on the long, juicy finish, with excellent length.
