  • Bronze color. Lots of matchstick reduction, creamy, marmalade, moderate petrol. Some RS but quite fresh. Not sure what to make of this wine. The color and nose were orange wine-like but without the tannin. There were some oxidative notes but not enough to match the advanced color.

  • Tasted at home over two hours, Zalto universal: more like I know Roth Lay than six days ago, with the formidable liquid, fluid texture and aromatic complexity. Some fuel notes, but a grand wine in the making, perhaps a bit introvert now.

Three days later, the wine is firm and has high acidity. Needs ageing, I think.

  • Because I was away from home, we drank this in the small Riedel vinum chardonnay glasses. I don't think this was reason it appeared so different from the previous vintages I have had (2002-2012). This one smelled initially of bunker fuel and had an extraordinary thick texture. Then it developed citrus notes and something floral, perhaps with a hint of botrytis. Quite mineral too. It had less of the fluid complexity I'm used to and appeared quite dry. Quite extraordianry, in a new way. Look forwatd to try it in the usual Zalto universal.
