  • First one of the Black Label Chardonnay since tasting it at the tasting room. Wow, a killer Chardonnay, this has it all, creamy, vanilla, honey-lemon, well balanced and great body.

  • Method: pop n pour (Coravin); Grassl Cru; 52 degrees

    Look: medium gold

Nose: dried pineapple, other tropical fruit, butter, lemon grass, hint of oyster shell, light pleasant wood

Palate: lemon, ripe apple, butter, oyster shell; long+ finish of light herbs (parsley?) lemon grass, green apple, soft white pepper, lemon; dry; medium+ body with butter mouthfeel; high- well integrated acidity that wakes up your palate on the attach and lingers forever on the finish

Overall thoughts: Wow. So complex and expressive with a wonderful fuller, buttery mouthfeel, but with outstanding acid that lights up the palate and keep everything incredibly lively. Long life ahead! Excellent wine!

  • VERY nice Chard. Rich but well balanced. Nice complexity.

  • Excellent Chardonnay. Well balanced, as is almost any Chardonnay from Dragonette. In my opinion, this is the maximum time to lay this down. Very mild and smooth, with just a hint of tartness to bring a nice balance. Pairs nicely with a white fish.

  • I didn't take formal notes as I was just casually enjoying this while out for sushi dinner.

This is an awesome Chardonnay and, from what I remember, it's become much more expressive than it was when I first tasted it last September. This has a great body and mouthfeel, good acidity, no heat, and expressive flavor -- all without being over the top or flamboyant. In my opinion, this is *at least* one whole level above Dragonette's single vineyard Chards.

This is drinking beautifully right now, but I suspect it'll age nicely as well. We'll see!

  • I didn't take written notes, but I just tasted this a few hours ago at the winery.

Wine was pop and poured. On the nose, the wine comes of as fresh with a little vanilla, and far from an oak or butter bomb. On the palate, the wine has a really nice medium+ or so body, but avoids the flamboyant flavors that you'll see in a lot of CA chard. Great salinity and nice minerality with ample fruit (probably primarily Meyer lemon). The 100% (I think) malo gives this wine nice roundness and some creaminess, but there's also great crisp acidity. I believe our wonderful host said she thinks of this wine as kind of a cross between a Chablis and a Meursault, and I think that's pretty accurate.

This is a great Chardonnay that I think is significantly better than the other Dragonette Chardonnay's I've had. I think there's a lot of upside here so I'll let my bottles lay down for awhile. If I was going to open another bottle soon, I'd probably decant it for a couple of hours.
