The 88 point score is nowhere near the expectation I had for this wine and its very sad to write about. I let the wine open for hours and it made no difference at all. Very dark and fruity but not much else; just dense and mediocre with flavors of old smokey barrels, and the 94 point score from Robert Parker is absolute BULL$$&@#!!!

In der Nase mit viel dunkler Kirsche, etwas Pflaume und auch ein paar dunklen Beeren. Dazu etwas Garrigue-kräutrig, recht fleischig mit sowohl etwas BBQ als auch Tomatensugo, etwas Vanille, etwas Laktik und mit viel Luft auch durchaus etwas minzig-frisch.
Am Gaumen bestätigt sich das meiste, neben der Frucht insbesondere der tomatig-fleischige Teil, es hat guten Saft und Säure und auch einen sehr ausgeprägten Tanningriff. Der Wein hat deutliche Alkoholwärme und ist sehr kräftig und etwas breit angelegt.
Durchaus mit Länge und Nachhaltigkeit, so richtig Druck bzw. Zug kommt allerdings nicht auf. Am besten sicher zum Essen.

Medium bodied. Nice bouquet of plums, chocolate and Mediterranean herbs. Soft mouthfeel. Nice dark raspberry fruit with red licorice. Finishes juicy with nice drying tannins. Beautiful wine…loved it!

Dark ruby. Aromas of plum, dark cherries, pepper, leather, vanilla, cinnamon. Wine is dry, medium+ acidity, chewy tannins. Medium bodied with taste of dark fruit, darrk chocolate and spice. Wine is young, at the beggining of drinking window.

While holding up well for its age, the wine is a touch thin. The nose is fruity with menthol and smoke underneath. Taste begins enticing but flattens out a bit at the end.

Not quite as spectacular as the 2015 which we opened about two weeks ago, but this is in any case a solid and tasty wine which should also be a crows pleaser.
Similar to the 2015 this was best in the few hours after opening (p&p no problem).

Primary and a bit raw, but this has great balance and intensity, and I expect it is at least 5 years from any semblance of maturity. The fruit is a bit cooked and liqueur-like, but there's plenty of freshness. Tight and brooding on the nose, diverse black fruits make an appearance, as well as a little strawberry jam, cola, leather, cloves, tar and spring flowers. Dense and layered on the palate, lots of fine-grained tannin, strident acids, but there's so much fresh fruit, and I expect everything will come together beautifully in time. Long and complex finish: waves of tangy dark fruit collide with prominent tannins, while many subtle earthy, herbal and floral nuances linger delicately. If I were to open it again in the next few years, I would decant it 6+ hours, this needs to open up. Also, have it with food, I'm thinking grilled lamb.

Die sehr hohen Bewertungen sind für mich nicht ganz nachvollziehbar. Geht voll in die moderne Bordeaux Richtung sehr fein gewebt seidig viel Würze Kräuter etwas Bitterschokolade. Holz gut eingebunden. Elegant. Ja, zu dem Preis schon wirklich gelungen. Da meine 100 Punkte bewertung nie absolut ist wie bei parker und co, sondern relational, lande ich letztlich bei 93 Punkten, was ja durchaus ordentlich ist.

deep purple colored / nose: intense, ripe strawberries, graphite, caramel, wood, stony / palate: medium acidity, medium bodied, medium tannins, good length, red and dark fruits, wood / overall: a very beautiful and elegant Rioja. Compared to the Remelluri San Vicente 2016 I prefer the Labastida because it is less rustic, longer and more complex. 8,5/10 (special plus for complexity)
