Very good Merlot, more full-bodied than a typical Merlot but with the familiar strawberry and vanilla notes. Tannins are very well integrated, and the finish is very good.

I decanted for about three hours before tasting. Kirsch, black cherry, boysenberry, graphite, and scorched earth feature on the dark nose. It takes on weight in the mouth as the long, finely grained tannins oxygenate and build towards a nearly full-bodied structure. Balanced by slightly juicy acid, the tannins do some drying service that exposes cherry, cocoa, black plum, black pepper, scorched earth, and Worcester sauce. The black tea tannin brings a slightly bitter licorice flavor to the finish. This New World meets Old World merlot is likely just starting to come out of its original dormant phase, and I imagine it'll evolve positively over the next five or so years.

Really enjoyed this. Black in the glass. On nose, sweet cherry, blackberry, oak/vanilla (not overdone). Palate similar flavor profile to nose plus some cinnamon notes. Medium+ body, medium tannins / acidity and very long finish. 93+/-

Deep ruby red. Dark berries on the palate with some blueberries, baking spices and graphite. Well integrated and medium plus tannins (6.5/10) with a medium plus body. A bit of dryness on the palate with blue fruit and dustiness. Long finish. Drink till 2042.

The 2018 Pedestal from Long Shadows is a beautifully balanced Merlot heavy blend that holds my attention firm with a dazzling dark mix of blueberry and blackberry preserves offset by savory spices, grilled herbs and hints of mocha. This is pure elegance on the palate yet energetic throughout, silky and enveloping yet with a bright acid core, feature ripe blue and black fruits that slowly saturate offset by a flourish of sweet violet candies. The finish, if you can call it a finish, lingers on and on, lightly structured and staining with plums and clove, both begging me to take another sip while also assuring me that there are years of positive development that are yet unseen. Produced under the guidance of Michele Rolland, this is a gorgeous blend of 82% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Malbec.

From their tasting room. Holy cow of fruit on the front end and that’s just the initial sniff. Strong tannins on the approach. Wet slippery rock. A bit overpowering. Gravel and chalk. Strong alcohol mid palate and a slight spicy burn on the end. Not soft and velvety at all. Is is way too young? Definitely not ready.

Liked this far more than the 2008. Light floral on the nose. Cherry fruit. Sweet and spicy. Good finish.

Attractive fruit and cigar nose
Palate relatively thin, closest of the whole tasting to a Bordeaux

A bit disappointing in that the wine lacked any vibrancy.

Decanted >1 hour. Fresh bread with blueberries and other dark blue fruit. Light baking spices. Juice is still young but shows nice potential.
