  • beautiful violet color that gained some depth overnight turning darker and a bit matte - slightly musky nose, smoky with a candied floral character, a touch of granite and lovely sour cherry fruit with a peachy tone, turns spicier with a hints of passion fruit and sandlewood - round in the mouth yet with obvious acidity which bracingly supports the core of cranberry/rhubarb fruit with some orangy citrus notes, the tannins are modest, very soft and ripe, some astringent stemminess appears at the end of the midpalate and leads into the gently earthy mineral and peach pit finish. This is just lovely, vibrant wine, rich yet pure, very high toned and refreshing that went particularly well with a sort of Mexican spiced grilled striped bass served with fresh salsa and guacamole, The acidity might be a bit much for some but just made it that much better of a partner to the dish and the sour fruits were strong enough to take on assertive food yet transparent enough not to obscure some of the subteties. A steal at the price.
