  • An approximate blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault that was sourced from vines 35-40 years of age, Domaine le Sang des Cailloux's 2019 Vacqueyras is a deep-to-opaque ruby wine that serves up an intense aromatic profile of blackberries, red plums, licorice, Provençal herbs, white pepper, tobacco and loamy earth. Medium-to-full-bodied, vibrant, softly oaked, seamlessly alcoholic (14%) and with plentiful fine-grained tannins, it delivers flavors in line with the aromas and stays solid on the mid-palate. Finishing medium-to-long and with a bit of tannic grip, this is a delicious Southern Rhone that should evolve nicely over the remainder of this decade. Although it is still a little rough around the edges, I would not hesitate to pop the cork at any time over the next seven years. This particular bottle was ordered from a restaurant's wine list and serially tasted over a two-hour period after opening. Give it an hour of air if you can. Drink now-2030.

  • Olive, thyme, blackcurrant. A wonderfully balanced, hearty red to pair with a big cut of roasted beef!

  • Buttery, starts with juicy cherry but doesn’t have the sweetness. Finishes with chocolate, mellow. Quite smooth and wel balanced. Interesting wine. Can tell this is a cut above standard wine you can get at a grocery store, with the complexity and smoothness. Probably wouldn’t drink every day but nice.

  • Increasing my score on the second day.

Day 1 - 83 points: Acidity is a bit on the tart side. Fruity. Mild tannins. No additional elements, meaning it lacks on any complexity. I found it acceptable to drink with dinner, but overall dull.

Day 2 - 86 points: Gained depth that wasn't there the first day. Where day 1 seemed more tart red fruit, day 2 is more dark fruit. Dusty tannins are more obvious but balanced, A hint of spice. Very nice on Day 2!

  • No complaints, a nice Vacqueyras, inky with some chewy tannins at the end…but the Cuvee Lopy was truly standout; I’ll stick with that one.
