Big oak nose on this clay-forward Uco blend of malbec, merlot, syrah and cab sauv. Herbs, minerals and fresh leather annunciate the aromatics of dark fruit in the olfactory. The mouth is unapologetically dry and dusty, with blackberry, fig, cassis, tar, vanilla, tobacco leaf and licorice foretelling an arid finish. Bold and clean without being too eager on the tannins, it's not the most exciting red blend in the region but it might be a worthwhile buy if it's on sale.

Not going to score this wine. It is terribly flat and tasteless. Not sure what's up with the seeming broad variability in taste profile over different bottles. i hope the last three in our cellar are much better, because this wine was, quite simply, awful.

I've felt I don't like this wine as much as others (i.e., in previous vintages), yet this was a hit with our group and I found myself enjoying more than expected. It's a nice deep and rich red blend that is also pretty balanced and attractive if perhaps lacking some complexity. No dramatic shift from the past, but I think my assessment sways in reverse of expectations. This is good, but not a favourite for me...

Absolutely delicious.
Day 2 Still a touch too cold out of the fridge, but, my goodness, do the spice box, currant, and tart plum come through nicely! This is a much better wine since the last bottle we opened. It has seemingly become much more fruit forward. Quite round and full. The Bordeaux varietals are bracing it, but they're leaving the malbec front and center. I had questions when I last opened a bottle. Now I concur with DOZHDBOG that this wine is a stunning value. Well-done to Monsieur Rolland and the rest of the team at Clos de los Siete!
Coravin by the glass. Nose of blackberry, black cherry, currant, baker’s chocolate, forest floor and spice. Black fruit, baker’s chocolate, forest floor and spice on the palate. Long dry finish. Full bodied, A very good QPR. Served Parmesan breaded pork chops.

PnP. Not dissimilar to my 8/10/22 note--only addition is that it has good acidity as well. Clearly very young, but quaffable in that style. Would prefer to hold for a couple years at least.
Cellartracker showed this community value over $20. Saw it on sale at Costco for under $5. I grabbed several thinking I was getting a deal. Well, it's a light blend. Pretty simple. Good, not great. No complaints at my price level.

The nose Plum, currant, and blackberries with cedar shavings and a slight vegetal note.
Palate The fruits of the nose carry to the fore with some violet hues then are accompanied by the cedar shavings at mid palate before being resolved aftward by damask, gentle spices, and the aforementioned cedar shavings. The ending lingers long on velvety round tannins with a soupçon of grilled pepper and nuts.
So lovely, and I think it may improve with some time. This is simply stunning value.
Day 2 Held up very well.

Disappointed in this one. Not much on nose, a bit sour in flavor and short finish. Not much oak or fruit flavor. Just sort of mediocre all around. Don’t need more 2.0
(Edit): Had bottle 3/3 9/30 weekend and it was better. More body and more complexity. Solid overall 3.0

Dark fruit and floral nose. Some acid and dark fruit on the palate but this clearly has a significant component of pressed wine. A bit of rocky mineral tension on the finish.
Another example of how ~$20ish Argentine wine falls way short of its $30-40 counterparts.

PnP. Deep, opaque garnet color. Nose shows classic malbec vegetal and blackberry notes, some smokiness, graphite, and cocoa powder. Very jammy, fruity palate, with noticeable, but fine tannins. The combination of the malbec vegetal aspect along with the juicy fruit and structure make this an interesting and very likeable wine today, and one that should age for a few years as well. Fantastic value at $18.

Bought this because when a 73 yo Bordeaux winemaker says this should be at a much higher price than $20, and he's wanting to put it into a blind tasting with wines of much higher price tags, I had to get some.
I'll have notes, but there's little doubt this needs a few years to get better...
Malbec-based blend every year, and the 2018 vintage consists of 55% Malbec, 19% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc.
With this mix, there's no doubt we all can see, smell, taste feel any number of primary secondary tertiary aromas etc. I certainly did From todays bottle, with summer temperature and food pairing, the wine was showing pronounced garnet and intensity. Mostly red berry notes, though plums are there too. Definite earthiness, though I've yet to sense oak or leather like others have mentioned, but I expect different vintages and subsequent blends will tend to show differently. It's got a nice structure, with the tannins present, but showing to be rolling into the wine already. It's finish is medium, about 30 seconds and though I think this wine lasts a decade, I think it prudent to review at least annually, because it's changing quickly.
So quickly in fact that, this bottle is showing fine balance right now, and seems to have come a very long way from those bottles sipped in winter!
Love this wine for the price. But, if it stays in Wine Spectator at# 53 for 2021, who knows that happens in 2022?
A good solid French blend with influence by a vigneron who had the experience and foresight to know!
Buy more. Bravo!

A deep and dense nose of ripe black cherries, hints of violet, toasted clove and black pepper with savoury bbq bacon fat. A full-bodied wine. Bold and inky texture, good dose of acidity and fine tannins. Some minerality. The structure is opaque and tight for now. This needs extensive breathing for the palate to open some of its secrets. Taste this in 3 years time. 90-91 pts.

Excellent New World blend.... On nose:dark bramble, and cassis. On palate: above notes amplified, with light oak, tobacco, coffee, damp earth and savoury herbs....full flavoured without being heavy, a very well balanced work, with 5 varietals playing off each other.... Primarily Malbec( 55%), with merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, and some Syrah....can age well...will buy again.

This is a tremendous wine 🍷 …and they made a lot of cases of this. 😊 thankfully.! This is complex, nicely balanced with good fruit and velvety tannins. A long smooth finish. The only negative is, the nose doesn’t reveal the treasures that lie within.

92pts. that’s as low as I’ll go with this one. 93pts. if you consider the price. Full and rich with lots of layers. Drinking way above its paygrade. Malbec is the dominant grape 🍇 in this Bordeaux blend; well you could’ve fooled me. I just call it a red Bordeaux via Argentina and it’s awesome. The fruit is a little muted at first but opens up after 30-60 minutes to reveal the ripe dark fruits it’s hiding. Doesn’t need food for sure, however, this pairs nicely with roast chicken, steak and cheeses.

This wine has two dimensions to it. At the bottom is a foundation of velvety tannins; above that is mature fruit. Even though Malbec is the predominant grape, this tasted more like a Merlot to me. Paired well with a grilled, fatty ribeye.

Nose: Tart blueberries and cassis, leather. Palate: barely ripe blackberries, lots of toasty oak on the finish; smooth tannins. This has similar bones to a 2014 of this I had a couple weeks ago that was maybe a bit past its prime; this 2018 also seems to drink hotter than the listed 14.5%

Velvety smooth and rich, this wine paired beautifully with a pan-seared Prime Strip Steak. Dark fruits and soft tannins make this a great wine to enjoy with rich, fatty foods. Outstanding wine for the price point.
Popped and poured. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, currant, baker’s chocolate and spice. Black and red fruit, baker’s chocolate, spice and loamy earthon the palate. Long finish. Full bodied. A very good QPR. Served with grilled wagyu and Gruyère burgers with garlic aioli.
PnP then decanted. Consumed at the 1 1/2 hour point. Black/purple. Dark fruits on nose and on palate. Full bodied, concentrated, very primary, can be enjoyed now but really needs some time. Development/improvement is certainly possible here. (88-89).
Monthly Kermit Lynch tasting at Wine Wizards: A massive complex wine, very thick, very dark. Quite young and very fresh, somewhat un-elevated. The under $20 price is nice, but it needs at least two years aging. At this point, for me, it is too much.
When decanted, noted tones of plum, cherries, coffee, cocoa. Mighty in the mouth, some roasted character. At the start it's fruit and cocoa that stands out. Let stand for ~2 hours. Edit: after waiting the wine is still fullbodied, same characteristics as before, some more black currants. A bit more integrated now, went well with baked rutabaga, kale and blue cheese together with a lamb filet. Lots of taste as in the wine which by now was powerful but not overly tannic, fruity with acidic backbone not making it sweet at all. Day 2: Still good with some hard cheeses.
WS Top 100 (2021) Drinking way above its weight class. I’ve had $50-60 Bordeaux’s that aren’t as good as this $16 Bordeaux blend from Argentina. Opulent, extremely fruit forward. Dark in the glass, full-bodied with a long finish. Pair with steak, roasted chicken and hard cheese. Kudos to producer Michael Rolland. If you buy a case half of the bottles come in a nice gift box.
Opened, but did not decant, 1 hour before dinner. Black in the glass. On nose, sweet cherry, blackberry, plum and some vanilla/oak with a touch of tobacco. On palate, black cherry, plum and blackberry. medium+ body, medium acidity/tannins and long finish. I really enjoyed this and it was a big hit with the crowd of non CT wine drinkers. Will buy some more as QPR is very nice. Has the structure to match the fruit which many wines at this price point lack. 91+/-
Decanted this for 1.5 hours. Aromas of plum, sweet cherry, mocha. currant and touch of burning embers. Flavors of plum, cherry, blackberry, mocha and a touch of iron. Ends with a nice finish of 15-20 second with cherry and iron notes. For the money this is a great bottle of wine. Easy 90 points in my opinion and made we wonder why I don't get this more often. I haven't had this is a few years but the appearance on Top 100 peaked my interest. Malbec certainly dominates this but the other grapes make it interesting.
By the glass. Modern blend of CS, merlot, malbec and syrah under Rolland consulting, we all know what we’re talking about: lots of fruit and lots of new wood. It needs to suffocate, but I won’t be the one waiting after those five years.
Not gonna give it a point rating. For the price, it's good, and is interesting. The other bourdeaux varietals spice up what really is an Uco malbec. But, I'm not sure it's the consensus 90 plus point wine that the experts have deemed it to be, at least not right now. We'll see how it evolves. Certainly drinkable now for what it is. We have several bottles of Zuccardi Concreto in our cellar, a pure malbec from another "rockstar" winemaker. It's going to be interesting to see how they evolve compared to each other.
Decent red but Just doesn’t have the depth and finish to garner a 90. Ofcourse Mr James Suckling - who hasn’t drank a wine that could possiblly rank below a 90 - rated this a 94. Hmmm...wonder what’s going on with his cozy relationship with producers.
If you read much about winemaking the name Michel Rolland will no doubt come up, several times. He's a consultant oenologist who works with hundred of clients worldwide. At a steak house in Quebec they offered this blend of 55% Malbec, 19% Merlot, 10% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot , 2% Cabernet Franc. It normally retails for $16 and garnered high marks from the pros so I had to try it.
Inky with rich aromas of blackberry, black currants, mint, charred wood and licorice. Full bodied with rich flavors and medium tannins. Gentle acidity makes for great mouthfeel. 92 points. Till 2028
Those were my tableside notes- very brief but you get the idea (I did not want to detract from the conversation to write details!). Drink this 5 star gem with steaks all day long- the pairing is magical.
Cor: púrpura profunda, aros violáceos e média viscosidade Aroma: ameixa, frutas negras, floral e baunilha Na boca: acidez presente, taninos sedosos e encorpado
Earthy mineral with great depth of fruit in an elegant frame. Really delicious and enough going on to make you ponder the complexity. Can easily go another five years and should improve.
Blend of 55% Malbec, 19% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The rich, intense nose has a complex, ripe, dark fruited mix of blackberry, blueberry, peppery spice, and savoury oak aromas with touches of stony mineral and plum. The medium-full bodied, ripe palate has blackberry, blueberry, and floral flavours accented with peppery spice and savoury oak notes. A touch of warmth on the mid-palate with juicy, well-balanced acidity, while the tannins are smooth, refined, and dusty textured. Herb and mineral touches join the dark berry and savoury notes on the long finish. Score: 90+ pts

PnP. Not dissimilar to my 8/10/22 note--only addition is that it has good acidity as well. Clearly very young, but quaffable in that style. Would prefer to hold for a couple years at least.
55% Malbec, 19% Merlot, 12% Shiraz/Syrah, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot.
Fantastic value at $18.

The nose
Plum, currant, and blackberries with cedar shavings and a slight vegetal note.
Palate
The fruits of the nose carry to the fore with some violet hues then are accompanied by the cedar shavings at mid palate before being resolved aftward by damask, gentle spices, and the aforementioned cedar shavings. The ending lingers long on velvety round tannins with a soupçon of grilled pepper and nuts.
So lovely, and I think it may improve with some time. This is simply stunning value.
Day 2
Held up very well.

Pretty meh.

I certainly did
From todays bottle, with summer temperature and food pairing, the wine was showing pronounced garnet and intensity.
Buy more. Bravo!

92pts. that’s as low as I’ll go with this one. 93pts. if you consider the price.

92 points. Till 2028
