  • PNP. cork wet bottom 15%. color light crimson with brick edges. nose has tobacco, plums, cedar and some dill - some spice that i can't quite place. swishing shows some light acid, tannin almost completely resolved and a medium length light finish. sipping shows this to be in fine shape with great polish....balance lens a little toward alcohol and dillish oak note, which to me is the only hint that this is california and not french. This was Cain 5 that they decided to declassify and sell for $12/btl. definitely shows quality of the producer....how else could such an inexpensive bottling be alive 30yrs later.....looks like there are a handful of bottles left out there....drink soon with a nice piece of red meat

  • Served in double-blind fashion to the Vintage Wines, Ltd. tasting group. Bottle personally provided, so my tasting note is unblinded. Bright disc. Medium garnet robe with brick rim,. Clean nose, opening over 30-60 minutes to show a quite intense and pleasant bouquet of cardamom, coriander, plum and cigar box. Medium-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and melted tannins. The flavors mirror the nose. The middle thins a bit but a very nice, medium-length finish is resurrected. Interestingly, most tasters identified this wine as Bordeaux, and many guessed '88 Bordeaux!
