  • Not a hugely auspicious start to the festivities. Opens with not-very-clean aromas of oxidation-suggesting leather and stomped gum on a city sidewalk. But it tidied itself up a good deal with air, as did the other wines in the flight. The scent turned stony and didn't go in an oxidized direction. But it is a lean wine, holding onto its shape but its flesh starting to fade. It expresses itself in wisps. But its not wholly devoid of flavor, there is a twist to it that's a little bit gravelly and a little bit meaty and it finishes with a puff of something-or-other that I couldn't begin to find the terms to describe other than that it's a dignified last gasp for a wine in its twilight years.
