  • Absolutely delicious! Patience has rewarded me on this one! Taste is very much of an aged wine, and past its peak of fruitiness but it has matured into a sophisticated, integrated and supremely complex orchestra of earth, mushroom and acid/tannin juxtaposition. Fantastic clarity; garnet red, less bricking than I would have expected. Nose of aged rioja, cherry and candied berries, lacking the plum of some other bodegas. Some bramble and leather on the nose too. Lively bright acidity in the mouth that jumps from the glass even at this old age for this wine. Candied cherries, wonderful fresh fruit that passes quickly to leather, earth, wood mould and mushroom. Finish goes on for a long time. Vanilla is very hard to find but is in there. The tannins are starting to dry in their age but have a length and smoothness that is truly impressive, especially when considering the entry level pedigree of the Cubillo offering. Really really enjoyable and a testament to patience and careful cellaring.

  • Had a aged wine look, brick color, still need a little decant to let this wine open, It has a feel of aged red Burgundy , old style subtle but with complex flavor, mushroom and herb. Like it a lot. 2nd day tasted better.

  • has the look of an aged wine - pale, pale ruby.
Out of the chute the wine was showing nothing - I thought it was DOA.
With a few minutes of air, however, it stretched and came alive. Nose of tobacco leaf and forest floor - on the palate the wine is in beautiful balance - ample acid frames cherry flavored fruit - I thought I caught a whiff of brett, enough to add complexity - not enough to mark it down.
Very tasty, and a bargain at less than $20 US.

  • Clear in color with definite signs of evolution (red-brown) this wine presents aromas of cherry liqueur, dry figs, underwood, caramel and leather as well as some light volatility. Definitely a very flattering nose. The mouth is balanced with good integration of wood, melted tannins and lenght on leather and vainilly notes. This wine is ready to drink now.
