After a deceiving bottle (probably a bad cork), this one is pristine. Very healthy crimson colour, no bricking at all. Fresh nose, noticeable alcohol, flowers and red fruit. Medium intensity, but far from a walkover. Decent finish. This bottle, with an excellent cork, is rather undeveloped. In this state of health, can go on at least 20 more years. Excellent QPR.

Purchased at Christie’s in Amsterdam in 2003. Pristine bottle, perfect level, label and cork. Decanted. Remarkably youthful colour, ruby red, little or no browning; light and lively nose, cherries and violets, cedar and warm spices, hint of alcohol, slightly stalky, good depth; medium bodied palate, youthful and energetic, fresh acidity and bright tannins, transparent rather than concentrated, hint of milk chocolate; rather light finish, good length.

Simple but nice vintage port, now fully mature. The sweetness is still evident, some alcohol is poking out, this is a rustic and honest attempt. Totally lacks the finesse and the grandeur of the very best, but alltogether satisfying on a cold March evening, with the wood stove burning happily. Ah yes, I did not mention the price: a mere 18 € when bought almost fourteen years ago. Eight more to go for me, no hurry whatsoever.

VT94 Port Horizontal: Very young blackberry fruit and a huge acidity and pronounced sweetness. The tannins are very young and the aftertaste is enormous and vibrant. This is a huge surprise but overall, this a huge wine with amazing potential.

Very nice and so youthful. Really enjoyed it. Very jammy and still some good fruit left. Not a plethora of flavours, just a very decent (and affordable) vintage port. Tannins are integrated. Not too sweet and the alcohol is not overpowering. Won’t keep it much longer, no benefit.

Very nice VP. still youthful and very fruit. Deep flavors of sweet dark fruit. Almost no heat. Smooth tannins. Absolutely a pleasure to drink now but best if you wait 5 more years.

Big stuff and still a child. When you accidentally forget this bottle for 20 years, no problem. Deep purple. Ripe and sweet black fruit like the purple wine gums.

Terroirwijn Vintage Port 1994 tasting and lunch (Villa Augustus, Dordrecht, NL): Youthful appearance, ruby red with still a hint of purple; the nose is still a bit closed but seems to reveal good depth; primary palate, not very concentrated and slightly one-dimensional but with attractive flavours of jammy fruit; good length.

Still darkly coloured. Ripe fruit (plums) and alcohol on the nose. Succulent fresh fruity (blackberries) taste, better integrated than the nose. Crunchy tannins on the medium-length aftertaste. Getting there slowly, but still needs some more time. Nice.

Even after 12 hours in the decanter still quite closed. Spicy and earthy, nice freshness, the figgy fruit is still resting in the depths; fleshy and velvety, powerful structure, good extract, lovely flavour (figs, oak, violets, bay leaf, marzipan). Rich and very convincing. First rate. Drink 2014 - 2029.

I didn't wait the full 5 years, so I enjoyed my last bottle, which was even fruitier.

Fruit, balance, packed alcohol, good balance and ripe, but with a good future for another five years.
