  • (5/5) - Deep ruby color with no hint of orange at the rim right now.
(13/15) - Decanting definitely helped here as it initially had a bit of funk the first 30 minutes or so. Then revealing aromas of strawberry, cherry, potpouri, potting soil, leather and tobacco.
(18/20) - This is well balanced. Acidity you'd expect from sangiovese at this young age but very mellow tannins up front. The tannins are a bit resolved but then get you on the back of the palate. Flavors of cherry, pomegranate, spice. Quite enjoyable with food but something I found myself just sitting and sipping on throughout the evening.
(8/10) - Great QPR wine here. Hits well above it's price point and outperforms in my book many BdM's I quite enjoy. This "reserva" is quite a step up over Chiara's entry offering in my opinion as well.
94 with room to gain a point or two.

  • Opened at Noble Rot Mayfair. Enjoyed over dinner. Decanted for extra air.

This bottle wasn't quite as fun or expressive as the previous one, but still very good. No extensive notes taken but remember having a good time, and with some air and the right temperature (was a tad cold to begin with) this really opened up and the nose I was looking for started unfurling. Don't hesitate to breathe this is needed - it can handle the air for a short while at least to help things come along.

  • Opened at Noble Rot in Mayfair. P&P and enjoyed over dinner.

This was a very pleasant surprise! First experience with Chiara's wines and the nose blew me away: sweet red fruits, exactly what you look for in a forwardly playful and expressive Sangiovese. Reminiscient of the best, such as Stella and even Soldera on the nose. So much fun.

The palate doesn't quite hold up, but I wasn't too concerned. The nose alone merits the score, and even at this young age the wine goes down very easily - what more could I ask for, especially at this price? Potential upside here, but also delicious now, and a pleasure to share with R in London!

  • Sangiovese Study at Planque (Planque London UK): Nose of herbs and pot that is a touch smokey and lightly fruited in cherry and milk chocolate. All earthy and a touch green. The palate is smokey and marijuana like with roasted red fruits and a very round chalky texture. Well balanced and integrated. Delicious.

  • Still nice but young, strong tannins softening the next day. Lots of red fruit and long finish. Will age well

  • Brief impression - tasted at winemaker dinner at King in NYC.

The '19 Riserva is a beautiful young wine that is in need of time, but seemed to me (context: single glass in a hectic restaurant) to be the most complete and promising wine of the 2016-2019 Riservas served. On the nose, I found dark red to black cherry fruit, smoke / roasted meat, dark floral tones and licorice. On the palate, the wine was medium in body with medium acidity, seeming very well balanced for aging, with a good level of concentration but lively acidity and finessed tannins. I found black cherry, licorice, sweet spices, dark floral tones, and raw meat. There is more sweetness here in the black fruit than in the 2018 it was served alongside; in comparison, the 2018 came across a touch diluted. The flavor profile here was a nice mix of primary, sweet fruit, floral, and savory smoke / meat tones.
