tasted at the domaine; powerful nose with deeply pitched plum, cassis, black raspberry, violet, and minerality; bigger and more explosive than the village; the palate is powerful and dense with lots of tannins, but so much extract that they glide along; long finish. A long term cellar player for sure.

La Paulee 2023 - Grand Tasting (New York): Brief impressions at La Paulee. This was the standout Lafarge wine and was the most approachable at this stage. Very giving and complex with dark red fruit and some iron. 93

2023 La Paulee Grand Tasting of 2020 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Dull red color. Ripe cherry and a bit of green on the nose. Medium weight. Saline. Excellent amplitude and depth of tart cherry fruit. Outstanding acidity. Tannic grip with endless soil on the finish. Approachable but this is one for the ages. Not only was this one of my favorite wines today, but it must be the most terroir-driven wine I tasted. The savory, earthy style of Lafarge worked beautifully with the incredible fruit that this vintage provided.

Domaine visit notes, so only brief impressions. Dark fruit with spicy elements, very young, good complexity already but for sure a wine not to be disturbed till 2030.

Dégustation au Domaine Michel Lafarge: Nez floral, bouche dense, des tanins très fins. C'est frais et merveilleusement équilibré. Toute la splendeur d'un grand Volnay. Superbe! 94-95 pts

Pommard & Volnay tout en nuances - Grands Jours de Bourgogne (Palais des Congrès - Beaune): Walk around tasting. Great aromatic start is perfumed with such bright red fruit. Already balanced with lots in reserve, this is wonderfully elegant with great length and sneaky power. Before now vs when tasted from barrel in November.

Armistice Day Burgundy Cellar Visits - Lafarge, Boris Champy, and Henri Magnien (Cote d'Or): Barrel tasting at the domaine. Also nicely perfumed, this is a big step up in volume over Caillerets. Rich and generous red fruit with charming spice, this should drink well younger than typical for this wine, 92-93 point potential, 2026-2050.
