ESTG Châteauneuf-du-Pape: Powerful, young, very pure Grenache, white pepper, called blind as highly reminiscent of Charvin, "I don't know anything that tastes like this other than Charvin." Let it age, this is a baby!

15% abv. O what has become of my beloved Charvin? This might as well be Spanish - it's garnet and clear, and smells like black and red raspberry jam, then figs in honey and wax tarts. Alcohol is + The palate is grippy, but this lacks grace, finesse and midpalate fruit. Tannins are chalky which is fine, but this is liqueur-like and hot.

Opened it and drank a glass after 2 hrs, it was very closed, heavy on acidity, very minor fruit and medium tannins. It started to emerge after 4 hrs. Vacuumed and refrigerated overnight. Second day, let it open for 2 hrs and viola! Beautiful red and prune fruit with anise and wet stone minerality, velvet tannins and still firm acidity. Medium to full body, nice density of flavor, delicious.

Huge nose of black salty cherries, hint of licorice... Very nice concentration of black salty cherries. Hint of licorice, lenght of 30 sec, finishing on powdery mineral. BRAVO

Elegant, silky and fresh, with a rich core of sweet, ripe, pure kirsch, herbs and licorice, that continues from the nose, to the mid-palate and completes the wine all the way through to the long, refined, cherry and red plum finish. The wine was made blending roughly 82% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, 4% Counoise and 4% Vaccarese. Drink from 2023-2037.

Good. Fine. Nice. Closed and thin at first. Opened up after a while. Traditional, not fruit-forward, style. Will revisit

Visit at the estate, 93/95
Nothing left but the 2020 CDP to taste and buy :)
Still this wine is another stunner from Laurent Charvin,
Nose full of intricate herbs, dark fruits, blackberry, plum, bramble, soot, fresh ash etc...
Palate is balanced and full, fat, round and fruity, a dense yet well acidic wine with good length !
