  • Had a flight of Chassagne Montrachet of 15 different wine across different vintages and wine maker. Interesting to note that for a group of 8 people, most couldn’t have guess the wine maker, all rather most got it wrong. The WOTN or favorite are quite similar representing the quality of the wine maker. And price point of bottle vis a vis the quality is inequitable.

  • Tasted blind. I didn’t recognize it as a Chardonnay - it was very dry on the one hand, but fat and oily which drew me to the Loire. Still, ot was well rounded and balanced, I enjoyed it and was surprised when revealed - not the oak-laden wines I’ve seen from this producer to date. Interesting.

  • Even better than my last bottle. This is showing so well now. On the nose: lemon custard, passion fruit, some honey, marzipan, a touch of smoke, and positively dripping with stony notes. On the palate, the density is amazing: fantastic acidity, loads of stone and lemon, some pepper, passion fruit...honeyed texture, but so rich and vibrant. The finish goes on forever. Happy Mother's day!

  • 'No Masks' Hong Kong Dinner (Table, 8th Floor, The Pemberton, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong): Nicely gold colour but still freshly jewelled. Nose is too cold but definitely a youthful bottle. Palate has an immediately gorgeous light honeysuckle and acacia honey character with a little bit of lemon and vanilla creme brulee. Really good deceptive length. Resonant and rich. Drop dead gorgeous. Quite feminine for a Criots-BM. The best bottle from my case so far. So fresh and vibrant. It had improved when drank again at the end of the meal 3 -4 hours later but hadn't basically changed character. I scored it mid-point.

  • Just lovely, and barely hitting peak if this bottle is any indication. Honeysuckle, a touch of vanilla, lemon peel. Fantastic acidity, struck match, sweet match, excellent density. Wow, stunning.

  • Chinese Dinner at Home with Friends: Quite deep yellow gold. Nose is light honey and honeysuckle. Palate is beautifully honeyed. Rich and elegant. Burnt lemon skins. Finish is deep, long and rich. ‘Honeyed’ is the signature descriptor. A very fresh bottle from a variable case.

  • Sadly, my note of 14 April 2018 was premature..... this bottle from the same case was premoxed. The first glasss on opening was so discouraging that I vacuumed the bottle and put it back in the fridge for 24 hours. So, afer 24 hours - Very rich golden straw colour suggesting a decade greater age. OK, sometimes that happens but the nose can tell a different story....no, the nose was lacking any vitality or even a pulse. Palate was very flat...meaning no signs of vitality and no freshness.... just golden 'barley sugar' boiled candy from my early childhood. PS I have avoided including any of my 'false hope' moments drinking this wine or trying to persuade myself that I wasn't in the right mood. PPS It's very hard to write a tasting note on a wine you wanted to love but didn't...but I thought I'd give it a try.

  • Indian Dinner at Home (Our House, Hong Kong): My first of a case and opened to test for level of maturity in what is meant to be an early-maturing vintage. Semi-fused cork was not a good first sign, but..... Jeweled light to medium straw gold colour. Nose of melted unsalted French butter, pollen from white and yellow flowers...nothing as heavy as honeysuckle. Palate is well-rounded and buttery with some lightly roasted lemons tones, low acidity and very unobtrusive oak...all very harmonious but somewhat monotone. Fortunately the wine gradually developed a resonance and reverberance on the finale that made up for the lack of the usual Criots-Batard-Montrachet "wow' factor on the nose and palate. Overall, it reminded me more of a top-end Margaret River Chardonnay than a classic white Burgundy....perhaps because of the warm year. No hurry to drink these but the low acidity suggests it has limited upside fo improvement. Try again before 2020.

  • Colour was dark gold. Nose wasn't expressive at this stage. However, palate was stupendous. Incredible richness and depth. Lots of spearmint wth a long, powerful finish of sweet fruit. Superb.

  • A much better showing, very fresh citrus fruit nose, little or no oak, very fruit driven but not new world style. An elegant white wine with great balance, without being overripe like many 06, medium plus mineral finish. Should age well.

  • Light golden color, nose of very ripe citrus fruit, very fruit forward is this a burgundy? No oak or toast of any sort, very ripe yet lacking in acidity, palate with loads of fruit yet lacking in depth. With very faint minerals at the end.
