Nice dark fruited nose that, thankfully, is not at all Port-like in its ripeness. Touches of savories, along with tobacco, asphalt and earth blend well with the fruit flavors. Nice balance on the palate. Lovely wine, if lacking just a bit in complexity of mouthfeel.

Ruby red to light purple. aromas of black cherry and some spice. Taste of black berries and earth. medium body, creamy texture, light on the finish. Drink up as it may be past prime.

From Magnum. Classic Bordeaux aromas and flavors of red and black berries, earth, mint, and a touch of tobacco. This medium+ body effort shows the ripeness and a bit of the weight of the vintage, though never crosses the line. Lacks great depth and structure, but what it delivers is a modestly complex wine that offers some pleasure while maintaining interest glass after glass. Not one for the long haul though I suspect this has another 5+ years to go. Good value priced effort and an accurate reflection of the '05 vintage.

Nose of black fruits and violets. Same profile on palate, with plush fruit quality and interestingly not too thick-- slightly thin texture-- and interesting minerality. It paired beautifully with lamb. I'm not sure it will last 15 years, but certainly should drink well if not improve for 5 years.

More Recent Release Bordeaux (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Medium color and saturation. Lively, bright aromas of redder fruit and licorice. Truly lovely light to medium body with pure fruit, excellent texture, and gentle finish. Very little that would give this away as a Graves or an '05, but completely enjoyable now. Another producer I'd never heard of much less tried.

Popped and poured; open for business from the get go but improved over a couple of hours. Like Badfish below this also reminded me of the Larrivet, with a balanced entry that smoothly transitions to a earthy middle with nice sweet tannins on the finish. However, I feel it lacks the structure in Larrivet and felt a little hollow in the middle ... probably better suited for early drinking. Still, because it isn't particularly tannic I couldn't stop sipping and its one of those wines that can get you drunk rather quickly. Had a 1/3 bottle left so I vacupumped and put it in the fridge. Day 2 - very flat ... lost almost all dimensions. Definitely a single-day drinker only (79 on day 2).

Bordeaux Today (2005s & A Lone 2004) (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Dark red purple core to light purple at the rim. This offers brilliant terroir on the nose with notes of slate and earth as well as sweet fruits such as blackberry and raspberry. The supple licorice laced entry on this wine is undeniably attractive and leads to lifted dark berries and sweet tannins. I also found this wine to be gorgeously balanced and structured. Reminds me of the Larrivet Haut Brion which I also found to be a compelling effort in this vintage.
