Pale to medium garnet, with a bare suggestion of bricking at the rim. Smelled pronounced aromas of rose, red cherry, violets, and deeper in some savory herbs; tasted the fruit first but with the rest alongside, and added a little tarriness from the fine-grained tannin. Medium-plus body with high (but not searing) acidity and tannin, good intensity, medium-plus fruity finish.

Excellent Barolo normale. Quite shy in the beginning, it strted to blossom after 30 mins in burgundy glass. Purity and elegance were on display with bright, floral, cherry, balsamic aromas. It was drinking exceptionally well for its level. A re-buy
Definitely get a few bottles of this if you can as it is well worth the price. I had not heard anything good about 18 Piemonte, but a trusted wine salesman up in Boston convinced me to buy a bottle and it was a great move. Evidently, Oddero blended in many of there single Vineyard bottlings, and you can really tell. I didn't get the red fruit people are describing. The first bottle (I went back and bought a few more) was a dark brooding Barolo with black fruits like black cherry and fig, licorice, tar, gravel, and some balsamic notes. It was thick and chewy with lush fruit that (in the first bottle) covered up the tannins and made for an extremely easy and beautiful drink. I did however notice that the next few bottles I drank over the next couple months seem to be shutting down a bit, and the tannins are a bit more noticeable. I will sit on my last couple bottles until they turn 9 or 10. This is an incredible buy and I highly recommend to any Barolo drinker.

No contemporaneous notes. Cork dislodged while opening. One plus hour decant back into bottle. Nice nose, but on the palate very tight. The far more forward 2018 Fratelli Alessandria Langhe Nebbiolo Prinsiot served alongside was preferred by my dinner guests and most of this bottle was not consumed. Will revisit. ADDENDUM: This was enjoyable two evenings later, but still very tight. The 2017 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Puits Sec, leftover from one evening prior, was superior. ADDENDUM 2: Four evenings later. NOW this wine is opening up. Deep earthy nose, smooth on the palate, but still not much fruit. This wine just requires lots of air or more time. Projected score: 91-93.

At Oddero vineyard. Clean crimson. Spectacular balance of roses, summer florals, slate and tar. Muscular and elegant at once. Fleshy, lingering palate. Trademark structure. (No single vineyards in 2018, and this had grapes from all.) 93+

Coravin. Light ruby; aromatic, red cherry, some floral, high toned; light bodied, tons of red cherry, high alcohol (14.5%, seems that high or higher), high tannins though not harsh, high acidity; medium finish. Enjoyable now or with a few decades, though for drinking today the alcohol seems a bit high for the palate density. 90
Garnet color. Medium low viscosity. Red cherry, strawberry jam, fresh cut herbs, and cedar on nose. On palate it was dry, acidic with stout tannins, and a medium light body. A tasty wine!

Coravin. Light ruby, clear; high intensity aromatics, roses, red fruited, red cherry, a bit of savory spice; palate is light bodied, elegant high acidity, tannins build into their youthful strength, offering a glimpse of some elegant red fruits before they are covered up by a bit of roughness, alcohol comes across as high but balanced, about the 14.5% on the label; finish is medium length. Obviously youthful but very good quality, and I'm glad they made the decision to declassify their single vineyards. 91+

Great wine. Fresh plum and red berries with some deeper savory notes on the nose. Lovely sweet fruit on the palate. Great structure and balance. The tannins are definitely present, but not drying or obtrusive. Lovely wine that will be great in 10 years but can be enjoyed wholeheartedly now.

Oddero did not make separate bottlings of Bussia Mondoca, Rocche and Villero in 2018, and instead included that fruit in this "entry-level" blend. This was astute winemaking, they really know what they're doing, obviously. This is killer "traditional" Barolo.
Tight and tense. Bright and complex on the nose: red cherry, sweet strawberry, nectarine, roses, fresh mint, dried mushrooms, airy cedar and allspice, this is as fresh as an alpine breeze yet at the same time sweetly aromatic and confectionary... Firm tannins on the palate, incisive acids are not not strident but lend lift and length. The inner perfume of red fruit, flowers and spice is delicate but I am confident it will one day be intense and enveloping. Gorgeous red fruit notes linger long with stony and herbal elements. This has so much potential, but you can broach it now if you want to experience an elegant and edgy Barolo.
Day two find this less high toned, hints of dark fruit have emerged, and it is more savory, earthy, fungal and soil driven. There's still plenty of lift and brightness. Tannins are a little softer as well and the finish is more round. Still tense and tight, but less edgy. Brilliant Barolo here.

Dinner wines (Hotel Sonne, Partschins, IT): *** brief notes from memory *** Drunk over two days. What a beauty! 2018 Barolo seems to be very approachable already. Beautiful nose, wonderful acidity and tannin. Good balance and harmony, long and lingering finish. Drink a bottle now, if you have some more. Really in a nice, fruity and elegant spot right now. 92++
quick taste, but this was obviously special, classic stuff, a study in cherries and roses, subtle herbal and earthy nuance too, elegant, firmly dry, fine tannins, deep and brooding, long finish, this needs a few years to come together, but it should be brilliant in time

Barolo Trip; 4/3/2022-4/7/2022 (Barolo): Third wine tasted at Oddero. Normally comprised of 2 vineyards in La Morra and 1 in Castiglione Falletto Bricco Chiesa, Brico Chiaso, and one I didn't catch. With 2018 they added some of the single vineyards, Villero and Bussia.
Very fresh on the nose, strawberry, wild cherry. Super red fruited. But structured on the palate. Grippy but fresh tannins. Less accessible than many of the '18s we had, this should be really nice with time. Ready in 4-5 years

Drinkable now but still pretty tannin. Not a rustic wine but certainly lacks some flash and fruit.
