This had been perfectly stored and was in a vibrant middle age. Gorgeous balance with subdued notes of menthol currants and leather it was very much alive and a great match for braised beef shank over polenta. A surprise!

Comsumed with a 96 Justin Cab Franc (last one!) and a 96 Voss Shiraz. The once dominant fruit forward flavors of this wine were nearly drowned out by the mesquite smoked ribs they were paired with; prior to dinner, it was a nice medium bodied quaffer. Some minerality remains along with the fruit; beautiful dark red/purple color still with no bricking noted. Past peak for sure, but not completely dull yet.

I was a little nervous that this wine was past it’s prime. It’s still amazing. So cool to tast the terroir of Justin almost three decades later.

Bit over the hill. Some prune in the finish.

Tasted at the Victorville get together on 4/19/03.
Light color, with a touch of heat on the nose initially. There is ample sweet red fruit and menthol. A bit drying out on the finish.
My rating 88 points. Drink up soon.
