5/10 - unbalanced, still has medium tannins and some acid. Nose is medium with woodland, earth, mushroom being the predominant notes. Would not drink again

Drinking well, it is probably better to have it with food. It is logical that second wines relatively mirror the principle estate wine, and this is the case here. It was a good year for Léoville Barton but not great and it is the same for the Réserve. All in all it is a decent everyday drinker and with a structure for a good few years ahead.

Popped yesterday. Notes from 24 hrs open. On the nose: va, blueberry, dark plum, a touch of creme de cassis. soft cedar. On the palate: good acidity, soft prune, bitter herbs, blackberry, soft tannin on the finish. Ok.

Cassis, pencil shavings, medium body, retaining a savoury freshness despite its age. Tannins are still noticeable on the end and a little bit drying. Enjoyable, not especially complex and drinking well now.

More fruit than I expected and less LB. A very decent claret with blackcurrant. Dryish, some oak and some unresolved tannin. Very nice, if not particularly St Julien.

Opened and decanted 2 hours. A very good initial impression, suggesting that the wine is probably still too young to be at its peak. It has that distinctive earthy Bordeaux nose and the cabernet shows blackcurrant fruit. Good length and a great accompaniment to lamb.

Shows faded blackcurrant and a very light oak touch. Dry, a little austere with a classic profile, this isn't overflowing with fruit or flavour. Reminds me of carrone st gemme in that regard. It has fairly substantial tannin but hasn't got the density one might expect of the vintage. Perhaps it is simply closed? I think several years may well do it justice though there may be a bit too much structure and not enough fruit. Very serviceable, but for an '05, you'd expect better. 89

No noticeable improvement since last year, this is a rather dull, monolithic wine, with four-square claret sturdiness, so slightly old-fashioned. There is a glimmer of red berry fruit after a few hours, but not much St.Julien spice. It's perfectly drinkable but something like Du Glana is better for half the price.

Pnp from 375ml. Pretty nose of crushed blackberries. Rather sturdy on the palate and has the kind of structure one would associate with Leoville Barton. Substantial dark fruit. Lacking some of the elegance and balance of its bigger brother but this nevertheless reflects the quality of the producer and the vintage. Can drink now but should keep for the next 5yrs.

I had two bottles of this and was disappointed with both. Quite thin, some kind of odd cranberry acidity which I certainly didn't expect to find in Bordeaux. Akward tanins, pretty clunky really . If I had to find praise I would say the nose was pretty, nice and typical, it just lacked any grace or charm once consumed.

Beautiful, classic wine. Notes of Blackberry, ripe, red fruit, cedar, tobacco and well integrated oak (emphasising this, since previous tasting notes indicate that the oak is too prominent). Palate is beautifully structured. Classic Bordeaux. Loved it. 90-91

Decanted for an hour. A medium finish and silky tannins; I'm reminded of the Barton pedigree. The middle palate is better than I remember and this has improved over time. Blackberry, tobacco and baked orange peel. Drink now - 2022.

Intense ruby. On the nose the oak is immediately very apparent. Lots of vanilla, cedar and sweet spice. There is plenty of ripe, sweet red fruit to like too but that oak is hard to ignore. On the palate, the wine still maintains decent structure but again the oak is far too prominent. I don't believe there is enough fruit to back it which seems odd given the undoubted quality of the vintage. That said, its not without charm and polish and i really like the mellow, sweet spice finish. I can't see this going anywhere. Drink now and over the next few years.

Crush berries on the nose. Seemly rather tight w a disjointed palate which seems to shut down. Nose was pretty much the same on the second day but the palate is more integrated. Finish is pretty decent.

2006 Red Bordeaux and a Few Others (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Medium ruby, lighter rim. Distinctly high toned and cedary. The aromatics are much more appealing than the palate, which is thin, lacking fruit, and dominated by a harsh tannic bite. Not having tasted this before, it is hard to know whether this is just an awkward, closed stage or not, but it is hard to muster any enthusiasm for it today.

Good sturdy claret even if not the most complex. Likely to be on its plateau for some time yet.

Not sure what was up with this, probably slightly corked and maybe a little cooked, but this is dead on the nose, and just tastes bad.

Great claret. Smooth and silky, in a good spot right now. Not the most complex one but very enjoyable.

Not bad, Cru Bourgeois standard, but I expected better. It does have the feel of LB but in a rather diluted way.
