  • Initial impression is subtle blue and black fruits, toasted star anise with a touch of savoury vanilla beans and grilled meat. This wine needs an hour for the complex aromatics to go into full throttle. Palate is dry despite the ripe fruits, tons of spicy dried black peppers. Fresh acidity and bold flavours in the full-bodied structure which is supported by a foundation of ripe tannins. Transition to a hot and linear finish is still somewhat uneven. Need extensive breathing for the elements to balance out. Keeping for another 3-5 years would be a better option. 90-92 pts

  • Sehr kraftvoller, fruchtbetonter Wein. Könnte noch ein wenig mehr Körper und Länge haben.

  • I bought this because I was curious about the Rhone minus the Grenache (was going to say S and M minus the G, but that clearly could have been taken weird). Juicy, some nice spice, velvety texture, a streak of Chinese plum candy, Lucky Charms (?!), and an unfortunate bit of cherry cough syrup (one of my least favorite gustatory elements on the planet) that thankfully fades out quickly. Takes a while to open up, upon first sip, it's very closed off. As the wine opens up, dark chocolate and mushrooms come in. The Chinese plum candy aroma stays strong, and is in many ways the defining note of the wine. Decant for a minimum of 30 minutes. But all of that being said, this is kinda not my jam, although if you like bigger, juicier, new-world reds as a matter of course, this is well-made.
