  • Wanted to try one of these young; it was very young. Nose was nice, but a bit closed; darker fruit, mint, spice, and earth; the palate is very powerful and the tannins are a bit overwhelming. I suspect this will close down and need a bit of time. Its drinkable now with food, but needs 5+ years really. Reminiscent of the '13 to me. Will be really good, but be patient.

  • Decanted and poured. Medium ruby. Strong licorice aromas. Initially powerful, penetrating sour cherry and herb with excellent acidity. Medium body. Curiously, this only seemed thinner and more attenuated with more air. Not a great showing.

  • The ‘20 Montevertine is fabulous. It’s going to need a lot of time to be at its best, but as I’ve found typical of this producer, it is very elegant and so drinking a bottle now is not crazy.

On the nose, I found black cherry fruit, lavender, roses, and sweet spice, with the aromatics showing a nice combination of dark fruit and redder floral tones. On the palate, the wine is medium in body with good concentration of fruit, with dark red fruit, orange peel, and red florals, with quite of bit of tannin but they are elegant enough to not disturb from the wine much. There is a beautiful sense of sweetness to the fruit already apparent, and lots of energy with medium to high acidity.

  • Mostly sangiovese. Small amounts of canaiolo and colorino.
