Showing well already, with notes of ripe black cherry, blackberry, and mixed herbs supplanted by emerging tannins. Hints of tar and oak linger on the medium finish. Tasty now, should only improve further in the next few years.

There's a brightness to the open-knit aromatics in this wine that I really enjoy, a lighter effort than usual from this producer, with both red and dried cherry. The cooler (relatively speaking at least to contemporary standards) vintage really stands out in a positive way and this vintage is probably underrated at least for short to medium term consumption.

More evidence perhaps that the 2018 Brunellos are underestimated- this has an attractiveness and levity which may have been masked in more ‘important’ vintages, and I’m finding the same across a variety of producers. This isn’t especially complex- sour cherry, mint, terracotta- but it is pretty and inviting. Consistent on the palate but structurally it’s a let down- acidity is spiky and the tannins are prominent, blocky and rough- really at odds with the aromatic profile and medium body. Finishes slightly bitter.
