  • Oregon Trip-Day 2 (Here and there, Willamette Valley): Light yellow. Fragrant orchard fruit. Ripe apple jelly. Sweet fruit, some soil, average acidity. This is missing some mid-palate energy and intensity.

  • Consistent with prior note. Really fleshed out with air. Nice wine but missing depth.

  • With Will

A chalky nose with citrus and pear fruit and subtle florals. Clean and fresh on the palate with a sense of minerality. Everything is in balance here. Soil, acid, fruit. Some mandarin and honeydew notes on the palate add to the whole. Lovely acid balance. Subtle, deftly done wood. Youthfully delicious.

  • With Will

A chalky nose with citrus more than orchard fruit, some marine notes and spring herbs. Lovely palate presence with a stony, clean feel. Excellent balance of extract and finesse, it's mouthwateringly fresh and lively with excellent cut. Finishes clean yet long. Outstanding and a great value. Solid. 91

  • Big tropical notes on the nose. Starfruit, papaya, cherry. Vanilla cake?? Perfect structural balance wow. Completely weightless body (0 G space baby), lemon with some secondary lime are the big themes. A light touch hot on the very back end. Reminiscent in body of the clos electrique weightless vibe. No minerality. A little acid deficient. Summary: straight delicious.

  • 2021 Violin Willamette Valley Chardonnay
Pronounced fruit with a good bit of complexity to make it interesting. Acid is there, but not piercing. Probably one to drink this year, and while it’s a base level WV bottling, I think it’s better than 90% of everything else out there, and a screaming value. 90pts.

    Update:
Just took delivery of my fall shipment and I’m stunned by what 6 months in bottle has done to this wine. Greater complexity, a touch more weight and richness, while still showing grace and balance. pineapple, perfectly sweet grapefruit, lemon and lime come together with honey and a touch of vanilla to produce a wine with the hallmarks of a great white burgundy. I would have guessed this to be one of the SVDs, not the base WV. Wow. Outstanding. Revising up to 93pts based on today’s showing. Glad to have a few of these.

  • Really fleshy and rounder than I expected, the oak presence protruding out a bit. It has sweet vanilla and maybe a bit less acid than I was expecting. A crowd pleaser but I wouldn’t buy to cellar.
