This was the first of my '05 bottles of this producer's PS to open and the years did not treat the cork well. It did present an opportunity to decant this wine which I served at room temperature with a turkey, grilled salmon and avocado salad. The nose was velvety and plumy with a touch of Cinnamon; ripe currants, black cherries and spice notes on the palate; with a pleasing tannic finish.

Impressive effort. Good acidity and loads of fruit in balance with it and the alcohol. Velvety tannins with lots of sediment on the bottle. Full of kirsch flavor.

Very nice. Closed at first, but I gave my glass a whizz (with my portable frother/aerator) and it opened up right away. Currents and berries predominate. Oak is also present. Dry. Medium finish. Will have the rest of the bottle with lamb tonight and report further.
Pretty much the same flavor with rack of lamb. Tasty. (So was the lamb. :) )

pop n pour not so much but give it 15minutes and bam - you get all kinds of fruit bomb, red velvet cake, cherry, tobacco, strawberries, blackberries, sharp beginning with dryness from the tannins which hits the back of your throat, medium finish. could use a little more time but it really is great now.

C: Opaque purple-black N: A little funk, blueberry P: Intense black fruits, red raspberry on the PnP but it faded to black fruits, black cherry, dusty, meaty, tannins F: Long and dusty The tannins really are noticed on the finish.
Overall, this is a very enjoyable, nice QPR wine. Wish I bought more!

Purple with ruby highlights. Cedar, spice and blueberry nose. Medium to full bodied, intense raspberries, plums, leather, substantial tannins, tart tongue-coating black cherries, and a dry, somewhat herbal medium plus finish. All the elements are there, but it seems a little out of balance.

Nice balance and body, the fruit really came out after a few hours. This was the winner in our "under $14 PS tasting". The other bottles were the JT Cellars 07 PS (2nd place) and the Windsor Vineyards 07 PS (3rd place). We didn't score them numerically, but I would guess an 86-87 if you're into that.

Dominated by cassis and blueberry fruit with a good dollop of oak and hints of spice. Solidly made, but not too complex and relatively basic. Decent for the price, though.

Definitely a good wine, but may be on the way down. Or at least at its peak. Sweetness was a bit confusing on the initial pour as a blind taste, but the wine mellowed over the evening and got better the next day.

Took 2 hours to open up, but 5 hour decant by time I took notes. Deep purple color. Chocolate and blackberry on the nose. On the palate, dark berries and plum. Thick and chewy with tannins still quite present at this point. Some hints of tobacco flavors too. Enjoyable. 89 pts. Aloha!

Enjoyed after a 2 hour decant, this is about as Opaque as they come, Deep Violet.the nose runs with dark red fruit, smells syrupy, touch of vanilla, some all spice, a little magic marker. The mouthfeel is heavy, but not as heavy as the nose would suggest. There's a rush of fruit on the front. Good acidity, the mid palate is coated with blackberry and Raspberry, and then attacked by ripe sweet tannins, a bit aggressive. The finish is long and quite tannic, a bit of heat, it competes with the fruit that's literally dripping off the roof of your mouth. Intense. Overall a very nice bottle, powerfull, would throw it 90 pts and will look to definitely buy more. Well done.

Didn't take full notes, but I distinctly found a really fantastic spice note of cinnamon and clove on the nose and palate, in addition to the usual PS profile. Terrific QPR.

I decanted this wine about 5 hours. The nose had a very nice mix of gaminess, blackberry, and blueberry. There was also some subtle undertones of pepper, chocolate, and vanilla. The palate was rich and fruity, with lots of blackberry and blueberry, some chocolate and earthiness, and a great peppery vanilla finish.

This PS is thick, spicy and delicious. Leather and dark fruit on the nose. Great brambly dark fruit up front with a spicy, punch-you-in-the-face mid-palate and a nice long finish. This has strong, but not bitter tannins. There is also a nice amount of acid making it well balanced.

Tastey blueberries and blackcurrant burst into the mouth and linger with good weight and depth. Clean and precise fruit on the midpalate leading into a smooth, seamless finish. Compared w/ Rosenblum's Heritage Clones, the other go-to PS at the price point, this is a little more polished, while the Clone's is more on the rustic side. Both absolutely delicious.
Drink now. 90 -JRS

This wine is big, decanted for 2 hours...still big. Next day, you guessed it...big. Great dark fruit, good complexity and firm tannins. Some tar, wood, meat to keep it interesting. Rides the fine line of OTT and I like it. For the price it is a great value if you like your wines bold.

90 points, to me, means incredible balance that starts at the nose, excellent quality of fruit, good complexity, an exciting wine with awesome acidity, and just the right amount of power and structure; not too much, just right. Very purple wine. Very good length. Great vanilla, cinnamon, and currant flavors on top of your bowl of berries and nice cherries. Quite a palate-pleasing wine.

Dark dark wine, almost black in color. The nose changed continuously over a period of roughly 6 hours in a decanter. Dark cherries, blackberries, shredded tobacco, mushrooms, and creaminess came and went. This has a very robust mouthfeel, fully loaded with dark fruits some smokiness and dried herbs. Might be considered a big over the top to some, but I thought it had enough balance. This also had a nice finish...with a fair amount of tannis. If you have this in your cellar, don't open it for another year or so.

Note similar to before. However this bottle had more sweet jam on the nose that seemed candied and OTT at times, and sadly did not show any gamey notes to make it more interesting. Purple teeth-staining, big bold dark fruit flavors on the palate with full but soft tannins all around. An excellent accompaniment to low & slow NC ribs and slaw.

GV loves his Petite Syrah, and this time his note nails it. Respi-Aerate to decanter, vigorous occasional swirl for the next hour. Color extremely dark purple verging on black, completely opaque. Effusive nose of blackberry liqueur, remarkable gamey wild boar bacon fat that sadly went away with time, black pepper to tickle the nose, and a little vanilla confection adding sweetness. Intense dark berry fruit bomb on the tongue that is hairs shy of being jammy, along with chocolate, baking spice, and vanilla. Low-medium acid and rather tight throughout with tannins. Plenty of black substance to stain your gullet. This could use a few years to soften a bit, or not if you prefer your Petite's to grab you by the tonsils with a firm grip. Perhaps the best petite syrah we have had for less than 20, though I could see for some this will be viewed as OTT.
