  • Upon first opening this did not show much due to cool cellar temperature (drop in guest with food necessitated cracking open something quickly :) once given time to warm a little this showed really well with black fruit and plum with smooth tannins and medium long finnish. Coming up on 10 years of age, this wine is holding up nicely.

  • Unscrewed and poured. Excellent Shiraz. Scrumptious fruit. A slight polyethylene note that is a peculiar but not that off-putting. Very enjoyable, and easy-drinking. Half the bottle in the fridge. Some serious sediment. Day two, even better, the polyethylene note having vanished.
I'd recommend a decant and an hour or so of air.

  • Dark, smooth, rich, well integrated. No hint of the tartness in the last bottle. No formal notes, but enjoyed by all, and very easy to drink.

  • Fruit bomb. No point waiting longer for this wine to mature

  • Dinner at Imperioal Treasure (Imperial Treasure, Singapore): A joint venture between Kilikanoon’s winemaker, Kevin Mitchell, and Rolf Binder to make a Barossa Shiraz. 14.5% alcohol.
Decanted for 1 1/2 hour and drank over the next 1 1/2 hour

Colour: Dark pitch with a intense violet rim

Nose: Loads of dark fruit, black berries and dark cherries, but not brooding. Notes of cloves and cinnamon. Heavy meaty notes which gave way to heavy notes of dark chocolate. It felt like I was smelling a freshly baked brownie from the oven.

Taste: Was told by the retailer that it was medium bodied, but we felt it was more of the higher spectrum of medium bodied and could easily be considered as full bodied. Very chewy, as if I was biting into the brownie. The dark fruits carried over to the palate but over time more red fruits such as raspberries developed alongside. The chewiness was slowly downplayed as it spent more time in the glass.

I had mentioned earlier during the dinner that the wine was missing the typically spicy notes of a Shiraz as we were getting lots of great fruit and chocolate creating a very delicious and appealing flavour. It was nearer the end of the dinner where the spice came up in a good dose. Black pepper, anise and cinnamon. Definitely fruit driven, but not over-the-top, well integrated flavours and oak. Very enjoyable but would definitely need food to go along with it.

  • Screw-top; opened for three hours. Tart, fruity, big; great with firm cheese, dolmades, and (gluten-free) focaccia; even better with chicken tagine. Fun to drink, and good to nearly the last drop, but LOTS of sediment. Would decant next time. Drink or hold.

  • A very nice, enjoyable Shiraz, something we've grown to expect from the Australians. Lots of fruit up front, with strong tannins and a full body giving away to a very smooth finish make this a good dinner companion. I expect this one will improve for several years yet to come.

  • Had a chance to pick up a few bottles of this exceptional wine recently and was sure glad I availed of the offer. The "Gunslingers" was a big hit at the NLC wine show recently and for good reason I might add.

Robert Parker gave this wine 90 points. This wine was full of flavour and very big in the body...it totally filled up the mouth with flavor. On the palate I got definite blackberries, cracked pepper and lots alcohol. This was a classy wine that makes drinking wine an interesting, interactive experience - wow! Stick a couple of these away in the cellar for special nights over the next eight years as it will last that long or more.
