Medium ruby and pretty clear for a unfined wine. Medium intensity aromas of red cherry, redcurrant, strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, violets, and a bit of resin. This wine is dry, with high acidity, medium alcohol, and low tannin. It’s light bodied with medium(+) intensity flavors of tart cherries, redcurrant, raspberries, and cranberries being most prominent, and a subtle, medium finish.
This is a very interesting wine that I find difficult to rate. It lacks complexity and tannic structure, but that is in part by design given its relatively short aging period in only 20% new French oak. I’m enjoying it as a change of pace with lighter faire (went very well with Stilton) or on its own slightly chilled on the patio, but it’s unique features are somewhat limiting.
