  • Quite secondary. Herbal and plummy with richness. Over the peak for me.

  • (Disgorged in the late 1980s, 46% Pinot Noir, 5% Meunière and 49% Chardonnay)
Golden yellow colour with a mature nose showing burnt sugar and honey at first. With some time in the glass it opens up with lighter citrus notes, flowers and some bourbon vanilla. Acidic palate with dried fruit on the mid to late and with an intense finish showing mature red apples. Not perfectly stored bottle, but as time goes it opens up in a lovely way!

  • Champagne tasting from different crus ans styles with sushi and salmon, 8 champagnes in 4 flights,
    1. Flight Guy Charlemagne BdB Brut Reserve against Cazals Clos Cazals 2000
    2. Flight Gosset Grande Reserve vs. Dethune Cuvee des Princess
    3. Flight Diebolt-Vallois Rose vs Krug Rose
    4. Flight Egly-Ouriet VV Crayres vs Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque 1982

For me and overall undisputed the best.

Only a few bubbles left, but this was not very important, dark golden colour, all nice signs of a maturated champagne: roasted nuts, toffee, coffee, caramell, dates, figs, apricots, honey, vanilla... delicious, Ithink at its peak, won't get better but don't need it anymore, with more bubbles and a little bit more acidity 97-98, I guess from a perfect MG 98-99 possible, no really oxidation signs as sherry or petrol. Lovely

  • Just a touch of caramel sneaking into the aroma. Smells of baked apples, spice, mushrooms and earth. Rich, full and creamy in the mouth, still with some vigorous bead and a fresh citrus infused finish.

  • Nose of brioche, yeast. On the palate honey, brioche. Lacking the vibrancy of other 82s and definitely on its way out. Still a nice drink at the moment.

  • This one was tasted as part of a vertical done at Perrier Jouet of their Belle Epoque 00, 99, 98, 96, 95, 88, 85 and 82 (see separate notes for the other wines). Needless to say this is a brilliant wine and on its own it would probably have been even better rated if it hadn't been for the 85. the 82 is very creamy and fat but a little bit more closed on the nose.

  • 1995 Bordeaux Showdown (Azuma): Light straw gold colour belies the age of this wine. The nose showed aromas of citrus, honey, vanilla and nuts. The palate is fresh, with remarkable vibrancy and acidity. The depth and the length were both outstanding. Superb - looked after bottles will probably get better over the next 6-7 years as well!
