There is a little sediment in the bottle.

On the nose: Candied apple, raspberry. leather, tobacco + damp leaves to finish.

On the palate: Leather, tobacco, some tart apple and some strawberry notes.

    The body is light/medium.
The wine has a fresh, slightly angular texture.
    The wine finishes medium.
    The wine has medium acidity.
The wine has a medium level of tannins.

On the palate not much fruit but lovely savoury notes, very smooth. Overall a lovely example and surpassing my expectations for what is a village wine 25years old.

  • Fading. Turning to brown sugar and black tea. Opened for an hour, then declining. Good, nothing more, though there were glimmers of its former self, with nice black cherries, lots of complex sous bois and earth, and decent balancing acidity and length.

  • Bright, acidic, earthy and closed at first. Obviously a Burgundy, especially compared side by side with new world pinots. Softens over the next hour to show basic, tasty, balanced and well made red fruits and earth, with a hint of complexity. Good, not superb - this just lacks definition and some sort of statement of character, this is a little too generic and ho hum, though the acidity was welcome during the meal. A nice rendition of a basic village wine from a mediocre vintage - not more.
