Wonderfully balanced wine. Deep Garnet color in the glass with a nose of dark berries, vanilla, and oak on the nose. Flavors of berry, spice and chocolate with a medium to long finish and got even better 90 minutes after opening the bottle. Paired well with some nice cheeses (Sapore Del Piave, Barely Buzzed Cheddar (with coffee as it's rind) and a triple cream Borgogne Brie).

On first opening, prominent alcohol on the nose and palate. Fortunately, most of that blew off after a few minutes and some aeration. The result was pretty decent fruit and some good pepper and spice flavors. I think the wine is already past its peak and the fruit and tannins have faded sufficiently that the alcohol is showing through too much. I'm guessing that I might have rated this higher if I'd tried it a year or two ago.

Dynamite juice. Will seek out again. California fruit with true European, cool-climate stylings. Leather, smoke, and some funk all dissolved in quality Cali fruit.

JC Cellars New Release: 2006 Marsanne Stagecoach Vyd & 2006 Syrah Fess Parker Vyd (JC Cellars Oakland, CA): This is young and IMO still needs a little time to integrate but the materials are there for some upside. Rich, smokey, blackberry, tar, plums, chocolate and a little vanilla. The palate weight is medium/full and well balanced if a little chunky/chewy right now. The finish was incredibly long and lingering..90 for now but I see this rating perhaps 2 pts higher as it smooths out a bit. Very nice
