A chunky Pommard. Highly vinous developed nose, yet still with a deep colour. Lacks elegance, but tannins and acidity round and well integrated. Good value burgundy (almost).

very brawny for the age. I tastes like an 05. Closed perhaps? Lots of acid and tannin. Somewhat disjointed. The nose is very tight. Nothing stands out, although there is a classic burgundy nose. Im very confused by this wine. Not my favourite. Might need more cellar time but I think you cant put lipstick on a sub-par wine. I wnat to like this but I can't

A more modern style of wine perhaps, but it's not too bad. Still very primary, with a lot of dark brambly fruits and even a nice meaty element mixed in there. The density of material is fairly impressive for a village wine. Not a lot of noticeable oak, but as said before, the extraction seems to veer towards the "modern" side of things. The primary nature of the fruit and tannic structure still in evidence suggest that this wine is nowhere near maturity, but it seems to be drinking well now, especially after some air.

After taking a little time to straighten its tie and smarten itself up this wine is really very nice. Plump and juicy with a strong masculine, mineral and tannic profile it reminds me of what NZ pinot is trying to be. Probably on the edge extraction wise but the structure just keeps it in check. I really do like that mineral twang that is persistent on the finish too.

A dark nose showing some smoky black fruits and tar-laced earth. Reserved, but a solid core of fruit. Some vanilla shows through. Robust and clean with a large-scaled tannic finish.

Burgundy 2002 with Allen Meadows (Burgundy Wine Company): Slightly more violet in color than the Giroud. The nose is dense and jammy and a dead ringer for a Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir. But it's lighter on the palate than anticipated, not Californian at all, with a wild berry character and just a hint of jam. The only pour I didn't finish.
