Was expecting this to be dead, but this was actually a pleasant surprise. Still lots of bright fruit. Well balanced with nice acidity. Improved quite a bit with air.

Full medium red with some crimson and lightening. Medium full nose of black cherry and menthol with a hint of heat and/or acidity - quite angular. On the palate, nicer with mature red and black fruit with just a hint of sweetness. Still structured, but softening up some. Doubt the fruit will live long enough to see this really round out and soften up. Nice, never be great...

An inky purple almost amethyst in color. Heavy sediment, with wild game scents of fresh tilled earth, compost, and manure. Flavors of blueberry, black plum, blackberry, and dark chocolate lead the charge in this bold, dark Pinot Noir. This is a wine for beef stew, rack of lamb, wild game...but I was thoroughly enjoying it entirely by itself. The finish leads through a melange of berries(cranberry, blueberry, and cherry) into a spice & nutmeg profile that calls the taster to find the closest gingerbread man...and bite off his head. A well structured wine of magnificent proportions that is enjoyable now and over the next 2-4 years. This was my first Ken Wright wine...and after experiencing this outstanding wine I can finally see why so many people chase after his wines like they have "the cure" in them...

I really can't be bothered to write too much of a note here ... wasn't that good. Sterile nose, a bit of musty forest floor. Thin bodied, fading tannins, a bit of VA? This was drinkable but not much else.

1999 Pinot Noirs; 1/14/2006-12/31/2006 (All over the map...): (from 375) Sweet! This wine had nice, sweet aromas of fruits and earth, with redder (cherry) notes on the palate. Has that characteristic McCrone metallic note that I always seem to have strong feelings about - sometimes good, sometimes bad - today okay. Good acidity, but still a bit tannic-ly fuzzy - should clear up given a year or two, I think. (Note afterwards: did clear up a bit after half an hour...) I liked this wine "above average" for a Ken Wright McCrone.

Medium bright red color. Rich forward aromas of pinot. Crisp cherry flavors with a sturdy backbone of well defined tannin. Not exactly a earthy round burgundy, but nice. Can easily age and may benefit from time - took a little while to open (better on second day). 11/01
