Cork was cracked but held together during extraction--phew. Vinturi'd and decanted ~45 minutes. Still drinking nicely. Very smooth and integrated red fruits and aromatics. Not mind-blowingly complex but no flaws either.

A very interesting Syrah. Significant floral notes (from the Viognier, I assume). A bit of cinnamon, spice, bing cherry. Not too heavy, nice concentration, good acidity, and still a touch of tannin. Good food wine and like I said, just very interesting.....

Enjoyed after a big CA Cab so nothing formal except that the Viognier aromatics lift this red up and your senses take notice. At this stage in perfect balance. Not the massive fruit when young that was in conflict with the tannins. Can drink alone but is at a perfect point to pair with food. Have one more left and cant wait to make this bottle the showcase.

Popped and poured. It's been over 2 1/2 years since I had a bottle of this vintage. Today it is much lighter that previous notes and a bit fruitier. Nice drinking wine but fell short of a Buty Beast Syrah Clone (2010).

Dark and opaque but not inky. Fresh, medium intensity nose, blackberry and cherry fruit, pure, not jammy, some hints of meat, brus. Fresh and medium bodied on the palate, juicy, with fine dry tannins, lots of cherry, berry acidity, not overly deep or complex, but works well with my pork chop in a red wine, dried mushroom reduction. Very tasty, and very well balanced, but I wished for some more character.

I'm very impressed with this wine. Definitely more european in style. Less like Port (big sugar bomb), more like Hermitage....and that's what I looking for. Very good!

I can't really express how and why I like this so much. The nose has strong berry, mixed with ? bell pepper and iron notes ? and a bit of dustiness. The flavors are no more easily distinguished, but the overall effect is stunning. Not a fruit bomb. Long, harmonious taste and mouth-feel. Excellent, long finish. One of the best, ever. This, with breathing in the glass for 3 hours prior...

Starting out Xmas afternoon, decanted about 2 hours, something I didn't do the first time I had this. Earthy on the nose, deep dark fruit to the taste. A hint of pepper and spice. We enjoyed this very much but it would be even better with food, something meaty.

Nose - tar, menthol, butterscotch. Mouth - thin start, cherries with lots of barrel toast and tar. Mid thru end palate is good. Might have been better earlier...slightly past peak. Good enough, but left me wishing for more. Drink now. PS: This note is for Desert Sun Cactus, so he'll quit bitching about me not writing reviews:p

Very nice wine but disappointed behind a Dunham Cab. I guess that is to be expected but I was hoping for more from this wine. Very light and smooth taste with a nice finish.

Dinner in Seattle (Bin on the Lake - Kirkland, WA): A bit too dense for my tastes. Notes of blueberry cream, smokey minerals, and some spice. Not enough acidity on the finish made this a bit flabby to me.

WLTV Offline - WA/OR tasting (Bin on the Lake, Kirkland, WA): The nose had an aroma that reminded me of a blueberry cream danish. It was a fairly sweet smelling nose. The palate had flavors of mixed berries with some small notes of licorice and earth. Good mouthfeel and medium length finish.

Decanted for one hour: Color: deep crimson. Aroma: lots of floral notes, game and earth. Tasting Notes: Dense and opulent with hints of spice and cherries. Nice structure and medium to full bodied. This wine was tasted alongside 2005 Matthews Cellars Syrah Red Mountain. The dinner table (6 people) thought the 2006 Waters Syrah was far superior!

This has a very nice "Old World" taste with a good balance of fruit, wood and earth. I think the Viognier adds a lot. I would like to try this in a few years to see how it ages.

Tar, ripe blue fruit, present acidity on the palate. Loamy, murky, nose. An interesting bottle to try. My first Waters. I would like to try a different bottling by this producer because I see the potential.

Wine H: Dark purple. it was clear we're back to a syrah. Meat/game/olive nose. Pepper/spice/dark fruit on the palate. Well controlled tannins, and medium long finish. First time having Waters wine, good bottle! I enjoyed it. My palate was a bit saturated by this point though.. probably would enjoy it more if I had this earlier..

Weekend wines in 2 shifts (Issaquah, WA): Inky purple color. Popped and poured. Right after opening, the nose had Huge blackberry and vanilla oak aromas. Even after a couple hours of air, the palate just didn't match up with the nose very well. Flavors of currants and plums, and some tart dark fruit with a green or stemmy note was what I picked up. The medium-long finish was marred a bit by some heat that creeped up at the end. On Day 2, the fruit on the nose had mellowed into currant and plum, but there was also some spice and heat to go with the vanilla aroma. The palate was more tart than before. On Day 3, right after I tasted this I wondered why I was trying so hard to like this wine more than I did? No improvements - it is what it is. I guess that I just expected more out of this wine because it had fruit from a Leonetti vineyard. I'll hold our remaining bottle for a while to see if anything develops.

I nailed this as a WA Syrah in a blind tasting but was off on the AVA. I really like what Jaime is doing w/his wines. Very elegant wines that are really made to be served with food. Reminded me of a common thread I had w/alot of the 06 Walla Walla wine, there is the very extracted "marionberry". To be honest I've never even had a marionberry but there is this marionberry syrup I've had that it's dead on for me. Very extracted and borderline faky but never goes across the line. Great acids with anise, tar, some early sweet herbs, blackberries, some bitterness that fell away after about an hour in the glass. Nice florals on the nose (probably from the splash of viogner, love that N Rhone blend!) with a vain of mineral running through it. Just a pleasure to drink!!

Brought this for a little blind tasting. Great big aromas of sweet-ripe fruit (something we have noticed more often in 06 Walla Walla and WA) that almost go over-the-top but not quite. Fortunately the fruit mellowed a bit with air revealing some white-peppered pork, violets, tar, moist earth, spice, ripe blackberries, raw red cabbage, and a lil vanilla. Most of the nose transferred to the palate along with some nice minerals, loam, dark fruit, and anise/Thai basil. My "blind date" pretty much nailed the wine as a WA state Syrah but I think, like me, enjoyed it as a notch above.

Swordfern Wine Tasting #11: Single-Vineyard Syrahs from Waters (Paul & Kelli's: Seattle, WA): I absolutely loved this wine; especially the nose, which evoked the life of a truffle-hunting pig, with musty aromas of mushroom, dirt, cabbage, and charcoal. Great acidity carried flavors of blueberries and meats, and there were some brawny tannins that make me think this could stand to age for a few more years.
