Family Winemakers 2011 SF; 8/21/2011-8/22/2011 (San Francisco, Fort Mason): This was the best of thier line up. Solid plum fruit core with a polished medium finish. People at the table seemed to enjoy the cab franc more but I was not as impressed. This and the Paloma were my favorite Merlots of the day.

Excellent example of what you can do when you want to make a great Merlot. Tasted at the Family Winemakers event in Pasadena and this was hands down, the best Merlot we encountered. Ready now.

With a perfume offering vanilla, chocolate, blackberry and smoky licorice scents, this richly textured wine ends with soft, round, coca and dark berry flavors.

Barrel sample. Dark ruby with a nose of candied red fruits, red currant, cassis, vanilla creme and toasty oak. This is a big wine folks, and if that's your style, you need to seek this out. 15.6% abv, this is juicy, chewy and creamy. The mid-palate is not that big, but the finish is nearly one minute. Fantastic effort.

Light in color, this medium bodied, effort offers oak, coffee and cherry flavors. I'd drink this on the young side.
