10 08 2019 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Hengst 2007 Very dark, almost oxidized color. Hypnotic white flowers in the nose with notes of orange, ripe peach, tropical fruit. On the palate a great fat viscosity feeling soft on the tongue. Plenty of sweetness but held together by a fine acidity. Orange, honey, melon, notes of nuts. Toward the finish a bitterness and little harsh acidity that kind of “frame” the full experience. Olivier Humbrecht is for sure one of the greatest winemakers in Alsace. This is a wine for food; cheese or foie gras terrine would be a perfect match in my opinion. I would say this is full mature. Might develop further, but I am not sure. 94+ P

Lychee jumps out of the glass. Some people around the table thought it was a riesling but for me it can't get any more Gewürztraminer than this on the nose. Color is dark gold. In the mouth it has allot of weight and viscous. The taste is not very spicy but the lychee and tropical fruits are very present. Still can understand how one can get this much concentration of tropical fruit from pressed grape. It is not dry for sure and would have actually made a good desert wine instead of drinking in the beginning of the meal.

Still going strong - heady and intense, showing some developed honeycomb and biscuit characteristics but still presenting as lush and youthful. In excellent balance.

Heady with extremely ripe lychee and passionfruit. It's like walking into a florist on the nose. Big and rich with plenty of fat on its broad shoulders. Alcohol is occasionally robust, but everything is in such perfect balance. Neverending finish. Stunning with cheese.

Light straw. Nose is open, bouquet of flowers, honey, citrus and spicy exotic fruits. Good balance, with enough grip to counter the sweetness and floral elements. Very interesting and enjoyable. Drinking well, but will improve.

taste: great depth with a wonderful medium/light feel loaded with spice, tangy citrus tones, green apples, and lots of minerals. medium/high acidity gives this a great spine and base to age from
overall: an amazing gewurztraminer in the making. Fairly acidic as would be expected from a wine this young. The aromatics and depth on them right now are a almost a knockout and with time they should develop further. Great feel to boot on the palate with wonderful purity of flavors. This really draws you in with its aromatics. One to really get excited about and let it have some time sideways to really become what it should be
