Nose of elderly wet monkey. Still some syrupy fruit left on the palate. Long finish, but given the flavors I'm not sure that is a _good_ thing. An interesting experiment that I don't recommend if you are drinking for pleasure.

Decanted just prior to drinking. Initial impression was still very fruity with almost no finish. After 30 minutes wine opened up, but faded quckly after another 60 minutes.

($25) Blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre predominately. Somewhat simple, blackberry fruit with black pepper and earth. Ripe, supple, decent concentration. Good restaurant wine.

Was still good. Lots of smoky brambleberry fruit. Delish.

My trip to Napa, Part 4: Montelena, Phelps, Darioush, lunch at Tra Vigne, Dinner at Bouchon and a nightcap (Napa Valley, California, USA): 50% Grenache with the remainder of other Southern Rhone varietals, Zinfandel and even Petite Sirah. The nose is slightly brambly with some cherry. The palate tastes like cough syrup, clumsy with lots of alcohol. Fairly gross. How could they pour this?
