Modern barolo, lots of dark fruit, strong backbone, big tannins and a juicy wonderful finish. This will age a long time. Keep the rest of the bottles in the cellar

Leather and licorice and a very slight hint of fruit in the background (strawberries / cherries). A bit annoying hint of acetone. Lots of tannins, but that’s pretty much it in the medium length aftertaste. Expected worse after reading the latest reviews, but if you’re sitting on a bottle I’d suggest drinking it now.

Nose : Cedar/wooden, rose petals, dark cherries, mushroom. Palate : Firm, acidic, soft but prominent tannins, dry, medium length finish. Can't see this getting any better, fruit is not there to balance things. 24h air didn't really do anything on second tasting, quite enjoyable wine on an October autumn day.

Nose with red berries, cherries, leather, touch of hay and barnyard, dry roses, cedar wood, oak and mint. Palate with drying fruit, mainly ripe cherries, some red berries, cedar wood, rather creamy midpalate, but with high acidity & soft tannins. Mature, in a good drinking window now. This is ready to go, and won't benefit from further aging. Good standard Barolo, modern styled, but not overly so. Finish is a bit thin and short. Fruit is drying, so time to drink up while it lasts. Dinner at S and A's house (Freeman Bay, Auckland, New Zealand): Beautiful expression of Barolo, in a more modern and forward style. Exquisite fruit with absolute textbook tar and floral aromas. Firm but inviting tannins, long and elegant finish - superb ripeness. This will go on for quite some time, but I would find it difficult to resist.

A lovely effort, the 2005 Scavino Barolo delivers deep red fruit, classical cherry and very forward amaretto tones. The nose is very fruit forward and alive, but certainly keeps its elegant origin alive. The palate is also enjoyable. The different components are clearly visible, but still there is enough balance to keep the wine on the elegant side. Oak, fruit and acidity speak with one voice. A very nice entry-level wine from a star producer. Well worth seeking out! Served from 375 ml bottle.

Revealing a classy Nebbiolo fruit accompanied by a very nice Amaretto perfume. Tones of cherry add to the experience. Tannins offer a nice backbone but they are still very pleasant. Certainly balanced with a lovely structure, this is a very nice wine. It certainly drinks very well tonight, but has a long time to go in the cellar.

At first this effort reveals classy Nebbiolo fruit and a very nice Amaretto perfume. After a few minutes in the glass a rather unpleasant odor of dark moisturized cellar appears. Cork can certainly show many different sides. No score for tonight, but I am sure this wine would deliver nicely if it was ok!

Nose of brown sugar, menthol, cherry liquor, tar and candied florals Palate is really quite pretty....definitely more modern in style but svelte. Candied cherry, plum candied flowers, brown sugar, menthol, tar and vanilla. Though there is some obvious oak treatment, it seems to have integrated quite well into the wine. The real problem with this wine is the abundant alcohol that appears on the transition to the finish..quite distracting The finish is medium+ but is a touch one-dimensional in terms of its candied profile. Nice wine...but not a re-buy for me.

(from a half bottle) The nose is subdued and somewhat tight but pleasantly aromatic in the classic sense. In the mouth, this is very smooth, and very well balanced. May lack a bit complexity on the nose and longevity on the finish, but otherwise just a very well made wine!

A very nice wine, the 2005 Scavino Barolo delivers an abundance of deep red fruit adjoined by the classical subtle cherry and amaretto tones. The nose is rather fruit forward and "massive", but still keeps its elegant heritage very much alive. The palate adds nicely to the overall experience. The different components are clearly visible, but still the balance is great. Oak, fruit and acidity speak in one harmonious voice. A brilliant entry-level wine from a star producer. Well worth tasting.

Half bottle. Perfectly clear medium red. Plum, flowers, and anise. Not a big wine, but the acids are POWERFUL but not face scrunching and carry it through to every nook and cranny of the mouth. Gently sweet fruit, surprisingly little tannin, already has a real sense of inner mouth perfume. Great effort for "just" a generic Barolo, and that acid structure is pretty phenomenal, suggesting a long, graceful development.

Very concentrated and filled with whatever I want to find in a Barolo - even if it probably is a very young wine. Could sniff for ages. Dense fruit with dark cherries, blackcurrant etc, spices... There is tar and tobacco and roses there - layers of aromas. The mouth feel is kinder than I expected, feels quite smooth and mellow to begin with, the finish is long with tannins that are obvious but not all that challenging. Like it :-)

Opened the bottle and had a glass for 7 days in a row. Day 7 this wine was great. One of the better wines I have tasted. Bought a case of the 2006. Somewhat surprisingly I could not tell much difference between the 2005 and the 2006. A sign of a quality producer, who also delivers in bad years (2005 was a bad barolo year)?

Wayyyy too young - my error, as I meant to bring a wine with a little more age on it. Lots of volatile acidity, very tannic wine. Started to open up after about 45 minutes and showed tolerably well for such a young Barolo, with some earth, anise, cherry, and leather. I wouldn't recommend opening this for a few years.
