Easter Dinner with Great Wine (New York, NY): Caramel apple with candied orange peel. Sweet, but not too sweet, and still displaying plenty of energy. Very good balance and good length.

Fully mature and very smooth with lovely flavors of tropical fruits and flowers. The viscosity here has softened leaving a wonderful medium-sweet Yquem that flows over the tongue like liquid golden silk. The finish is complex with a note of sweet rose that is beguiling.

Dark mahogany color. Classic aged Yquem flavors of orange peel, caramel and minerals with medium sweetness and good but not great acidity. Doesn't quite have the verve of the '67 tasted earlier this week but still delicious and quite complex on the finish with notes of brown sugar and clove spice.

Hugh’s bottle. Orange brown. Nose is dominated by notes of burnt brown sugar. Surprisingly fine on the palate, though. Sweet and reasonably fresh. Fine but not great.

Wow, this is a seriously great d'Yquem. Very dark color. A kaleidoscope of flavors in that way that only old Yquem can do. Wine of the year so far for me. Not sure how I haven't had this vintage, nor have I heard of folks talking about it.

Dark brownish-amber in color, like polished walnut wood. An herbal, fresh nose with candied fruits. Tastes of butterscotch and orange rind with an acidic lift. Light to medium body.

From 750 ml with low shoulder levels, obvious seppage. Dark color like Coca-Cola, and the cork crumbled upon opening. Very nice aromatics upon opening and held up for hours after. Very concentrated wine with good sweetness, some fig, brandy and tropical fruits apparent in the long finish. Not the most complex Sauternes, but the aromatics alone made this special. Plenty of life in this wine, and a real treat.

Magnums for Dave (Jean-Georges - New York, NY): My notes were quite brief by this point in the evening. Lots of spice on nose with plenty of candied fruit as well. Vibrant and bright, lots of energy all the way through to finish. Really interesting and wonderful.

This was an intellectual wine and not everyone liked it. Beautiful half bottle for age 55, base neck. Decanted. Color was an orangey very dark yellow when poured into the glass. Not brown or reddish as many older Yquem are. The nose was a distinct old caramel with the typical vanilla highlights, the palette very pinched and severe, the almond pit flavor very prononunced as the various wine writers told me it would be, keeping things almost tart. Not very sweet, controlled and elegant. A very masculine long finsh awaits, taste evident after a minute or even two. But now, two hours later some of the sweetness and power are showing through, more of the mature toffee, singed brown sugar, and even coffee flavors. This wine is alive.
I really like this, but I have read widely about what to expect. It is not sweet pineapple... and that threw off the rest of the group.
A wonderful experience, but not decadent. Improved with triple cream cheese, as I would describe this as a food d'Yquem. Yum!!! (between 90 and 94 points)

This one is lighter in colour. Beautiful bright golden colour.
The nose in fact only delivers aggressive almond / marzipan and spices. According to Sandrine that was a fault in this wine (The agressive notes).
The palate isn’t hurt though by the off nose. It delivers fresh dried fruits, almonds, caramel, passion fruit and acacia honey.

Y2 day in the Librije, Zwolle, Netherlands. (Yquem tasting) (De Librije, Zwolle, Netherlands.): Light amber/gold. Very refined and pure bouquet. On the palate intense sweetness, ripe pineapple, beautiful bitterness and acidity. The aftertaste is long with honey and almonds. Perfect harmony, except for some hints of alcohol.
