This has matured into a very pretty Gevrey with reserved, earthy, dark red fruit, perhaps the slightest bit muddy, but otherwise quite nice and drinking beautifully almost immediately after opening. Sadly, my last bottle.

Another '07 that is drinking remarkably well. Bright with black fruit and meaty spice throughout. Cleary 1er concentration and pedigree. I enjoyed the forward, fleshy fruit and layering. Fun and interesting.

Quite nice tonight, but not what I remembered. There's still the earth, red fruit, sous bois and violets, but overall, the mouthfeel was abit on the flat side. Perhaps an off bottle. I have one left, hopefully that one will be better.

This is extraordinary tonight with rich, penetrating dark red fruit, earth, sous bois, violets and sauvage notes. The depth and concentration was impressive. Denis Mortet wines never fail to impress me. This was beautiful after about 2 1/2 hours of air, opened not decanted.

This is really good tonight. There's good depth and heft to the bright, fairly forward red and dark fruit, which is accompanied by earth, spice and some subtle sanguine and sauvage notes along with a hint of violets. The tannins on the long finish are fine and chalky. All in all, this was really quite excellent after about 1 1/2 hours of air.

Domaine End of Year Party (Chicago, IL): Initially a very charming red-fruited nose that just lures you in with that classic cheerful 2007 character. But aha! A trap! You've been caught in a barrel of oak, and you can't get out. What the hell man, all this oak on the palate is totes uncool.

92+ Dunkles Rubinrot.

Tasted alongside the Mortet Gevrey Chambertin 2007 village. This one is everything the village wine is, but a bit more. More concentration, more power, more complex nose and palate, darker, more mystical, like walking in a dark dark forest at night with owls howling and stuff. Perfect! Read my tasting note for the village wine for all the praise this wine deserves. This is no doubt the best wine of the night.

Knightsbridge Holiday Burgundy Sale (Northbrook, IL): Powerful black cherry aromas with some tarragon and thyme, all of which continue seamlessly onto the palate. Already close to its peak drinking window, this is a charming and balanced 2007 with lots of great texture and nuance.

Martine's Wines with Martine Saunier (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL): Very bright and elegant aromas with a cross-section of red and black fruit on nose and palate. Good floral component as well. Meaty spices and darker fruit on palate. Long and nuanced finish with good fruit and spice. My first time with this cuvee, quite impressive. Preferred it to the Champeaux.

Post Tasting Wine Dinner (Brasserie Margeaux - Chicago IL): Bright black cherry and berry with roasted meat. Still very fresh and vibrant with a long, lively finish.

Justerini & Brooks tasting at Drake & Morgan (Drake & Morgan): Much riper and more voluptuously fruit-led than the Latricieres Chambertin GC Remy 2007 which followed.

Knightsbridge Annual Holiday Burgundy Tasting and Sale (Northbrook, IL): Tasting, brief note. Lots of bright black cherry aromas and flavors with dried herb and energy. Consistent with prior times tasted. A very successful 2007 and a wine I like in almost every vintage.
