Jon's 50th Birthday Party: PnP. Disgorged 1995. Wonderful nose that explodes out of the glass with honey and nuttiness. Palate is expansive with lovely acidity and nice bubbles.

Lovely. Cork popped which is always a good sign for old champagnes. Deep yellow hue. Good fizz. Clear and transparent. Fantastic nose even from the first pour. Full mouthfeel. Caramel and honey. Slightly nutty. A bit dry but mitigated by the sweetness of age. Much fresher than expected - many guessed it was late 1990s instead.

Loek's birthday lunch and tasting (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam): A whiff of oxidation in the start, hardly no mousse, very interesting and friendly bitters, peach, vanilla, bit waxy, dry and very long aftertaste. Ten minutes later, a bit more mousse, the refreshing backbone is more obvious and there is more transparency in the taste. Disgorged in '94. A perfect example of a delicious and classic champagne.

Leoville and Langoa with Damien Barton Sartorius: Really terrific Bolly RD showing what the label can really do in its marriage of completely fresh, lively fruit and the mature notes that make aged champagne so fascinating. Even better on the palate than on the nose, the 82 has life ahead though it may not be destined to improve per se.

disgorged 4 november 1995. paler than 85, 90 and less body too. very yeasty, somewhat chalky, still lively nose with pretty floral notes. exquisite balance, refreshing, rather acid, bit chalky taste, delicate, long, slow fade is delightful.

1995 degorgement. Light amber. Mousse nice on opening, then receding. Nose w toffee, brioche, seville oranges, quince, ripe yellow apples. Bone dry, lovely, mature acidity. Full bodied, still plenty of fruit (mostly apples). Slight sign of oxidation. Long aftertaste, balanced, with some salinity. Still alive, but time to drink up.

1991 Disgorgement. Toffee, butterscotch, instant coffee (that sweeter, more malty smell than fresh coffee beans), good to very good acidity. Deep colour but not as dark as a 2006 Mt. Eden Char drunk later that night.
Changed over the course of an hour or so, very much alive very very enjoyable.

1995 Disgorgement. Nose was very pleasant with some orange zest notes with some brioche. Very light effervescence, powerful and rich on the palate again with some citrus, honey and brioche with just enough acidity to keep it lively. Hint of saltiness.

Nedfallsepler, Litt julekrydder og brunt sukker. Litt urene noter her også. Kommer seg med luft. Ganske så fin i munnen, med god friskhet. Definitivt bra vin, men litt hul og noe kort finish for å nå de helt store høyder.

This was the 1995 Disgorgement. Don't know if there were multiple 82 RD disgorgements out there. Anyway, this was a beauty. Upon opening, a nose of caramelized brioche, butterscotch, roasted nuts, and coffee. The palate had more of the butterscotch notes with a really edgy acidity. With air, the acidity took over a bit and the palate freshened up but with a more intense, almost grippier texture. Beautiful bottle, but I don't think this will get any better than where it is right now.

This bottle was likely on its way downhill. Still had a viable mousse and tasted more like a still white chassagne that was just starting to fade Not premox (it's too long disgorged for that, but not in it's best shape either. A lovely faded flower.

Disgorged 1997. Nice pop, some fizz when pour, though it quickly dissipated, light golden color. Nose was citrus at first with a strong Bollinger nose, to me RD has got one of the most distinctive in champagne. With some air developed more, earth, smoke and tobacco with a slight background sweetness. Plate showed high acid with chalky minerality, big champagne, but very elegant compared to '90 or '76. Best RD I've tasted so far. No great rush to drink, but don't see any further upside. Had by itself, probably would have benefited from some food, roast chicken comes to mind.

Awesome stuff. Initially seems firm and solid with a gunmetal characteristic that makes it even more imposing, but the brightness of the juice gushes through the outer walls.

Champagne and Christmas (Hi-Time Wine Cellars, Costa Mesa, Ca.): Very mild toast and yeast on the nose, nice, full bodied, elegant, good acid taste, crisp, wonderful, needs 2 years.
