A rather disapointing wine, not for the apellation as much as a rhone red. Just a bit too oaked and with nothing to support. meh. Drink of hold, but not likely to improve. 14.5% abv

I'm never convinced about lesser RV appelations to age gracefully even into the early stages of middle age but this one looks ok. Medium weight, puffy soft minerals, lingering finish driven by soft tannin. Really pretty good.

A good surprise ! I was fearing the 14% of alcohol would be the dominant feature and, actually, the wine is harmonious, well balanced. A nose of wet forest leaves.Ruby colour. Wonderful quality/price and standing so well after only 4 years ...

"2011" Sydney International Wine Show - stewarding notes; 10/17/2010-10/22/2010 (Blue Mountains, NSW): {cork, 14.5%} Youthful, jubey-fruited wine. There’s a dash of jam and sandalwood among the aromas. Not bad. The palate is of somewhat polished grenache; loose-knit jammy/raspberry flavours wear little oak influence, if any; it’s all grape-skin and pulpy texture. Soft powdery tannins and a light-medium body add up to a slightly simple wine that should be an undemanding drink for a few more years.

Dark fruit nose with plum, blackberry and blueberry notes. Some hints of liquorice and herbs, but rather straightforward. Quite full-bodied with fleshy fruit and ink but not really enough structure to make it work. Some nice herbaceous notes and black pepper before the alcoholic sweetness and heat take over in the aftertaste. Ok, I wanted the initial fruit attack to step back and returned to the wine a day later, which - it seems now - wasn't such a good idea with this particular label.

This is an absolute winner for the price! Red/purple in colour, medium opacity - looks delicious. Ripe fruit with a bit of black pepper and a hint of provençal herbs on the nose. Delicious in the mouth - medium body, balanced tannins and acidity. Carries the notes from the aroma through on the palate, and lingers just long enough on the palate to leave me satisfied. Not overly complex or interesting in itself, but does what it does impressingly well, and for that this will surely become a go-to CdR for me.

Second last cheap 2007 Rhône Valley wine from Alko, this one going for €14. Decanted for 45 minutes. Colour is quite a dark purpley red. The nose is not hugely expressive, having fine notes of blackberries and a hint of vanilla. On the palate this is quite a strong wine, with lots of blackberry and some smooth tannins. A bit hot on the finish. Quite an ok wine, rather fruit forward. With more airtime the fruit calmed down and made for a good quaffer. 50+4+9+15+8=86
