Whommagawd! This comes at you like a Tyson fist wrapped in velvet.
Still but a padawan, yet delivers a drinkable experience. Would love to make this wine's acquaintance againin 10 and 15 years from now.
This is a little subdued on the nose, with Nebbiolo grape aromatics and little else. In the mouth it enters with immediate tannic hammers and nails. But with enough air, the barbed wire also gives way to warm plums, autumn leaves and ( after a couple of hours) beautiful rose petals.
This wine has it going for itself and will converge with the great Barolos down the line. My guess is well above 95 as time moves on.
Wife dissed this. At brilliant PRIMO in Kannai, Yokohama. (Should be 2 stars.)

No formal notes... Typical to the La Spinetta style - big and modern, but also balanced and very enjoyable. Feels like it's starting to enter it's window. Drank with 2-hour decant.

Tasted from dispenser directly. Fully developed nose with Leather, Truffle, Game, Animal Skin, Wet Leaves. Dried fig, Dried cherry. Some spicy notes like nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice. Light bodied with still quite harsh tannins. Again fully developed on the palate with tart, leather and tobacco. Expected something quite more elegant.

Really nice Barbaresco. Still on the tannic side, but has everything else to support the tannins. From nose to finish, this is a really nice wine. Ready to drink now but seems to have many more years for the patient.

Decanted at 4:30pm and enjoyed from about 8pm through about 9:30. This is a big styled modern Barolo. While my notes on the previous bottle were better, I was struck that while this wine was by all means rather delicious it did not seem to have much Barolo character. It could have passed for any number of modern, fairly well-oaked, powerful reds. Tannins were fully integrated and it was quite smooth and easy to drink but the fruit was muddled and there were little of the rose petal, cherry and truffle notes I find so appealing in really great Barolo.

Dinner at La Spinetta, 2006 horizontal. Nose with cherries, vanilla, crackers, oak, medicinal notes and hints of chocolate. Austere and tough on the palate, harsh and dusty tannins. To much oak influence for me.

Medium red; lovely expressive nose, red cherries, pepper, a bit eucalyptus; pleasant soft attack with bite, strong fruity mid palate, mild tannins at the end; nice long aftertaste with a bit of licorice; dry end

Six courses on short notice with some great football: Decanted 2-3 hours before drinking...this is big, modern Barolo. medium to dark but still slightly translucent garnet/ ruby. The nose and palate has vanilla, ripe dark Bing cherry, cranberry, pomegranate, licorice, roses and chocolate. This is quite complex and layered and nicely textured. It went well with the Elk. P.S. I think this was actually better 2 days later. It was so rich and textured, savory and full of ripe fruit...modern styled but delicious. Probably deserves a 94+

Very tight upon popping. Opened up in decanter over a couple hours. Medium purple. Nose giving red and black cherry, rose, and licorice. Palate was much the same as the nose with additional notes of leather and cedar. Massive Nebbiolo, but showing very good balance. Very good now, but should be much better from a couple of years out.

Good but still young. Great nebbiolo flavors, but still with a good whack of dry tannin. Needs at least another 4-5 years.

excellent; bright red fruit, acidity typical of italians, a yummy bottle of high end barbaresco

Nose was very muted, even after opening 5 hours prior to consumption and brief decanting. Very nice on palate. Needs more time and/or longer decanting
