Dried cherry, leather, mature oak. A bit round in the mouth. Ends with menthol. My guess is that this must have been heavily oaked and only moderately extracted. Okay, but nothing particularly interesting.

Decanted a bottle for about 5 hours and it needed all of that and more. Nose was pure sango and in the begining the best part of it.But as it sat in my glass it became better and better, less tanic and more of the fruit emerged. Next bottle I might consider decanting longer or waiting a few more years.

My last bottle of this wine was the best one I had. Dark crimson color. Classic tuscan nose of sour cherry, a bit of bloody meat, roasted plums and some charred oak. Similar flavors on the palate with the sour cherry and oak notes dominating but a bit of cherry cough drop and sweet pipe tobacco as well. Good acidity, soft tannins and a pleasant finish. Not a standout bdm by any means but a very serviceable wine with classic Italian dishes.

Recalling a modern oakbomb of a wine, I brought this to the Tobiases for dinner, but it began very promising: not as much overt oak, and grippy, grainy tannins that gave this interesting texture. Ripe plums on the palate, with a note of orange peel, this showed more Sangio than I was expecting, and a lot less creamy oak than a bottle one year ago. However, as the tannins smoothed out with air, the wine lost interest and became just another fruit forward, modern wine. Good beginning, but then got boring.

Excellent. With 2 hours of decanting produced aromas of cherries, some earth. Medium bodied. Don't really understand other poor reviews. Maybe bottle variation?

I think this was another flawed bottle. Very funky on the nose with a heavy amount of match stick. Extremely thin and bitter on the palate. I think this entire batch purchased from WTSO was a bust...........

I bought this wine by mistake, thinking it was Scopetone, one of my a favorite Brunello producers. Upon opening, the new oak hit me and I thought "oh no" - - new oak and vanilla notes are not what I want in Brunello. But, while oaky, at least the palate was restrained and not fat and sloppy. I figured I had five more bottles to bring to dinner parties hosted by people who would like oaky, modern wines. I couldn't even finish one glass. I stuck the cork back in the bottle and left it on the counter. Twenty four hours later, the wine is much improved. The oak is not as overt as yesterday. The palate shows more Sangio cherry and grippy tannins, a tapered and restrained palate, and does not come across as spoofolated as initially. I think that with a few years of age, the oak may integrate and this could wind up being a decent to good Brunello. Hold for four years and try again.

Bought 6 thru wtso in 8/11 for $30 ea. popped and poured one upon receipt and found not much to get excited about. not great and wouldn't buy again. today however 8 mos later we opened another that has been kept at 56 degrees and it's a different story. beautiful nose of cherry and violets. subdued. noticeable tannins although much less tannic than last year. very pleasant slightly oaky, cherry, short finish. green vine overtones makes me more enthusiastic about trying it again in 6 more months. at end of day i wouldn't buy again in future because I like things a little more fruit forward than this but I am now pleased with this purchase and feel comfortable sharing with friends. ciao.

Decanted for over 2 hours. Any fruit was stewed. Some tobacco and a little cherry on palate by 2nd day but there didn't seem to be any structure to build on. Unpleasant wine that we didn't finish. Sorry to have 2 more bottles.

I have to agree with Rich S on this one. Very tannic, might be too soon to drink or it could be cooked. That's just it with $30.00 Brunello's, it's a crap shoot. I bought this from WTSO, wonder if it was sitting in some 100+ degree warehouse somewhere before I received it?

Starter for "brunello dinner" with six friends that included zuppa di cipolle, pasta al pesto and agnello primaverila. After 4 hours of decanting the Scopone showed soft red fruit on the nose, stone fruit including plum on the palate with lots of tannin. This puppy clearly has room for aging. The group consensus was an 89.

I really liked this; very dark fruit, tobacco notes, quite dense and extracted. Worth sitting on for a few more years, but can open up with some coaxing in the decanter.

Given the excellent vintage, this is underperforming. A bit thin and missing the delicious factor.

Weighty, a bit monolithic but solid. Seemed a bit edgy and overly acidic out of the bottle but settled pretty quickly.

Decanted for about 2 hours. It definitely needed it. Well balanced. Not an incredible wine, but for $30 it's very good.
